There was just a selfie of him on there. But then he was kind enough to take one that actually did work. I don't think I will be abiding by this rule.

Loving Lately: Sarongs

Being from Mobile, items like swimsuits, coverups, and sandals have always been items I love to buy for the summer. I always get so much use out of them because it is so hot that time spent at the beach or pool is basically a requirement. A few years ago, I added a new item to this list- a sarong. I love how these can be adjusted to how you want them to fit. Want to hide your stomach? Pull it up higher. Want to cover your legs? Pull it down lower. Want to show off your stomach and legs? Fold it in half and show off both!

The sarong that I have is by Mimi and Muff. Through a mutual friend, I met the creator of Mimi and Muff, Molly. She created this resort line that reflects her love of color and bold patterns. I also love color and bold patterns, so naturally I love every piece in her line. In addition to sarongs, she also sells coverups and beach bags. Click here to check out her site for yourself. Her Instagram handle is @mimiandmuff, and you can always find beautiful photos there. She also posted a video that shows how to tie a sarong. I go back to this video literally every time I put mine on.

My sister Ebie also bought this adorable pom pom sarong. I saw it in real life at the beach this past weekend and am now waiting on a sale because it is even cuter in person than it is at the link. I think the photo below of all the girls together at a Bachelorette party shows that sarongs are pretty in right now!

How to Add More Joy to an Engagement

Three years ago today, Parker and I got engaged. It was one of the most joyful days of our lives, and today I am going to share some ways that our families and loved ones added even more joy to our engagement.

Parker and I spent Memorial Day weekend with my family at Orange Beach, so we planned to spend the Fourth of July with Parker's family at their house on Gap Lake. I am usually not easily surprised, but I had no clue Parker got permission from my dad to ask me to marry him while we were at the beach. And then also had no clue that he had arranged for my family to come to his family's lake house to be there to celebrate our engagement.

So we got to the lake Friday, went for a boat ride Saturday morning, and when we got back from the boat ride, Parker said some really sweet things (which are mostly all a blur), and asked me to marry him. I of course said yes, and then as we were walking down the pier, Parker told me he had one more surprise for me.

When we got up to the screened in porch, my mom, my dad, and my sister were there, along with Parker's family. This was such an exciting surprise to me because 1. I thought they were spending the 4th of July at the beach and 2. Our families had never met, so I was ecstatic Parker made this family meeting thing happen on such a special day.

Please excuse the lack of makeup and slicked back hair look- If you didn't believe I didn't expect a proposal before, then maybe you do now.

Both of our families went above and beyond to help us celebrate this special day! My family brought us 2 beautiful Waterford champagne flutes. We were all given mimosas and Parker's brother in law Clay gave the kindest toast to kick off our celebration.

Then we enjoyed a delicious brunch Parker's family put together for us. How adorable are those cookies? Parker's sister Allyson found them on Pinterest and got them made. The baby's breath and pink banner were too cute too!

My sister Ebie typically tries to wear something for us to be twins because she knows how embarrassed I get. This time, she had no clue what bathing suit I would be wearing, and she just so happened to pick out the same bathing suit I was wearing this day. #twinning However, it was the Fourth of July, so I guess there was a decent chance we would both wear our navy bathing suits. And my mom brought a whole bunch of these red, white, and blue huggers from Walmart- so fun and festive! We still love pulling them out and reminiscing on this fabulous day.

Parker's family set out another lovely brunch the next day. Parker's sister came in with a super cute idea again! White powdered donuts with diamond toppers = diamond rings. SO cute! My family brought some gumbo that we had for lunch, and that was nice to get to enjoy some delicious, fresh seafood. You don't realize just how much you miss fresh seafood until you live 5+ hours away from home.

I could not have asked for a more special engagement. So many people contributed so much time and thoughtfulness to make this event so joyful for us.

Friends who were not with us at the actual time of the engagement also contributed to the joy we felt. Sending cards, bridal magazines, items with my new monogram on them, and well wishes meant so much.

I did not know to do this type of thing until I got engaged, but now that I know it is a meaningful thing to do, I will send a card, text, social media post, or something to let my friends know how happy I am for them. Maybe when I live closer to friends, I will be able to bring them some precious Pinterest cookies or diamond ring donuts. :)

Old Navy Steals

Have y'all seen the Old Navy sale going on lately? On yesterday's post, I shared a couple shirts that I bought. I have some more pieces to add today! And like I said yesterday, I apologize for my appearance. I truly just planned on going to Walmart, but then I spotted the Old Navy sale signs and was drawn in. Parker's not thrilled when this happens because our cold groceries get left in the hot car. However, I am not one to turn down a good sale!

I get SO excited about celebrating this holiday every year for many reasons. One less obvious reason is that it is the day Parker and I got engaged! Favorite Dress- Corey Lynn Calter Bayside Off the Shoulder Dress

If you have been reading my blog the past month, I'm going to go ahead and apologize for making you look at this dress for the 229th time. I truly cannot get enough of it. My sweet across the street neighbor from our old home in Fayetteville commented when I posted about it the other day and said "the Corey Lynn Calter dress was made for you!" Brett, you made my day! I think it was made for all girls who want to feel cute and girly. This dress is one of my favorites of all time. From the colors and stripes to the sleeves to the pockets to the material, I just love it all! I foresee it being a favorite for many years to come!

Favorite Top-Fuschia Neon V-Neck Tee and White V-Neck Tee

I had something different in this category until I stumbled into Old Navy yet again yesterday evening when I was just planning on going to Walmart. I apologize for my lack of makeup and my sports bra hanging out. I honestly was not planning on trying on clothes. However, I have to tell y'all about these t-shirts! They are actually 2 different styles. The fuchsia one is $6 in the store, $7 online, and such a fun color! I plan on wearing this exact outfit road tripping to the beach tomorrow. And the white one is $10 and quite possibly the softest shirt I own. Did you know Old Navy has something called Luxe Tees? I didn't until yesterday. The Old Navy website says that Luxe Tees are "softer than the rest, with a draped, flawless fit." They aren't kidding. The white shirt is so very soft, and I love the longer fit. I did size up to give it a looser fit, and I love it!

Favorite Bottoms- Ruffled Short

These are my favorite shorts I've found in quite some time. The ruffle detailing is so cute! Plus, I love the color, but if you're not a fan, they do have them in a pretty jade green, blue and white seersucker, black, and white. More good news- they're on sale plus an additional 40% off with code SUMMER until tonight at 11:59 pm. They have a 3 inch inseam, so I sized up one size and love the length and fit.

Favorite Accessory-Long Seedbead Necklace

I have really been loving Target's jewelry collection the past few months. It's hard to see all of the pretty details from the picture, but this necklace has lots of cute, bright colored beads with gold mixed in.

Favorite Shoe- Sam & Libby Slide Sandals with a Bow

I went to Target last week to try to find these shoes, and they didn't have them in the Target where I shop yet. I will most definitely be checking back. I love this taupe because I feel like this color would go with everything. However, I also love the pink, black, and blue/white pairs. Good thing they are under $25 because once I do finally come across them, I think I'm going to need more than 1 pair.

Favorite Painting- Mixed Media XXIV

I love the colors in this pretty painting! It would look so cute in my office with all of my white and turquoise. It's one of my mom's newer paintings, so she still has it in Mobile currently. However, maybe I can convince her to bring it to the beach tomorrow, so I can hold onto it for her until someone purchases it. :)

What to Wear for a Full Wedding Weekend

One of my friends got married this past weekend, and her wedding is what inspired this post. I was invited to her rehearsal dinner, bridal brunch, ceremony, and reception, so I had three dresses to pick out. One for the rehearsal dinner. One for the bridal brunch, and one for the ceremony and reception. I haven't had a reason to get too dressed up lately, so I had lots of fun picking out my dresses.

When choosing my dresses, I thought about the "rules" of what to wear to a wedding. If you ask me, there are only 2 rules:

1. Do not wear white, ivory, or cream.

2. Do not wear anything too revealing.

Weddings are a great opportunity to dress up and look and feel cute, but they should be all about the bride. So although I have been dying to wear this ruffle sleeve white dress, I did not even consider packing it because weddings are times where white is absolutely off limits. The bride should be the only one who has the right to stand out in a beautiful white dress!

I think rule number 2 is self explanatory. Like I said, a wedding is all about the bride. Not a time to be showing off too much skin.

I don't think these rules are too restrictive. I chose some dresses that I loved and paired them with neutral shoes and fun accessories! I do love wearing white, but I also love wearing bright colors, as you will see in my photos below!

Brands I Love: Lilly Pulitzer

Lilly Pulitzer is a brand that I have been wearing for years and years, so it only seemed right to add this post to my Brands I Love series. My mom started buying my sister and me Lilly shift dresses when we were young. However, at some point, maybe in middle school or high school, I started getting embarrassed to wear such vibrant patterns. I guess the opinions of other people made me second guess my love of this bright, happy brand. However, this phase didn't last long. I am a bright color lover, so it was only a matter of time before I stopped caring what others thought and decided to wear what I love! Plus, Lilly has more than just vibrant patterns. They also have solid colored clothing and tons of options for everyone!

My mom and I are both wearing Lilly dresses in the photo above. Most of the Lilly clothing we own has been bought when it was highly discounted. They have two HUGE sales a year. These sales take place in August and January. The August one is coming soon, and I will have more information about it for you as we get closer to the sale. You do not want to miss it! Items are marked down like you wouldn't believe.

Today, I'm going to share photos of the Lilly Pulitzer items that I own. Being from Mobile and close to the beach, I was under the impression everyone knew about Lilly. I wore a dress that was very obviously Lilly Pulitzer to school in Arkansas one day and was asked who made my dress. I couldn't believe people were unfamiliar with Lilly. Nashville, Here I Come!!!!!

My old Huntsville roomie is getting married in Nashville TOMORROW, and I am so excited to get to be there for this. The last time I saw her and my other roomies was at my wedding, which was over 2 years ago. It has been way too long, but I am so excited for a full weekend celebrating Lizzie and Jon and spending time with my long lost friends!

The story of how I became roomies with Lizzie and the girls below is a long one, so I'll save that one for another day. But I sure am glad we went through funemployment and time at the Radison together since it led to the friendship we have. The photos below capture some memories of the times we have spent together!

Between Lizzie's rehearsal dinner on Friday and her wedding morning brunch, wedding, and reception on Saturday, I will not have much time for other activities. However, if you live there, I would love to hear from you! Maybe we could squeeze in a quick visit! Happy wedding weekend to Lizzie and Jon!
