Last Minute Gift Ideas

Are you finished with your shopping, or do you still have a few last minute gifts/ stocking stuffers to buy? If you fall into that second category, I’ve got you covered! And if family members are still asking you for some ideas of things you would like, I’ve got some great ideas for you today too!

Facetune_18-12-2018-12-38-12.JPG

Christmas is going to look pretty different for us this year considering I am 39 weeks today, and we are not doing any traveling. Except to the hospital in Memphis when this baby boy decides to make his appearance. The gifts Parker has gotten me are currently sitting under the tree unwrapped. I started that trend though because the gift he asked for was too big and heavy for me to lift and wrap at this point, so it’s not wrapped either. I have no excuse for the cookbooks he’s getting, but they look cute on top of his bread maker. :)

But anyway, I have broken my picks down into 2 categories- Gifts for the Cozy Girl and Gifts for the Beauty Lover. I think a few of the gifts from each collage could be thrown together to make a really great gift. Or some of the smaller things would make fabulous stocking stuffers!

Gifts for the Cozy Girl

You can click on any of the photos in the collages below to shop them!

Below is my commentary about each item pictured in the collage!

This pajama set would be great to wear on Christmas or to give as a gift because it can definitely be worn after Christmas too!

38 Week Bumpdate

Less than 2 weeks to go, and so much has happened this past month! My weekly updates below are LONG. We started weekly doctor’s appointments at 36 weeks, got to spend Thanksgiving with our parents, completely finished the nursery, and did lots more things to prepare for our baby boy!

35 Weeks- 38 Weeks

  • Due Date: December 25, 2018

  • Baby is the size of a: winter melon- 19.6 inches, 6.61 pounds (38 weeks), romaine lettuce (37 weeks), papaya (36 weeks), pineapple (35 weeks)- all of this info came from The Bump app

  • Total weight gain: I have officially stopped looking at the number on the scale when I get weighed. I know that I have gained at least 30 lbs. More on this under the weight gain section in my last bumpdate if you missed it.

  • The bump: It is big and heavy. And the ultrasound tech said the baby is taking up every inch of space in there at my 37 week ultrasound. The doctor has said at my last 2 appointments that the baby is dropping lower and lower each week.

  • Symptoms: Discomfort. Everything started hurting around 36 weeks- moving, walking, changing positions on the sofa, bending over. My back pain causes a serious waddle and very slow pace. Yikes.

  • Food cravings: fruit & all the sweets, especially my mom’s chess squares

  • Food aversions: They are completely gone! Although I haven’t had the desire to eat fish since becoming pregnant.

  • Sleep: It’s been ok. I’m up about every 3ish hours to go to the bathroom. My doctor tried to convince me that this is a really neat thing my body is preparing me to do for when I have to feed the baby every 3ish hours. Not so sure I would describe it as neat.

  • What I miss: Being comfortable. Walking like a regular human. Bending over easily to play with Bailey and Rosie.

  • Movement: Lots of movement is happening! All day every day. I think I read somewhere that you can’t feel the baby as much towards the end because the baby runs out of space. Not the case here. This baby is a wiggle worm.

  • Maternity clothes: these Zella maternity leggings (they’re back in stock!!!) and these maternity jeans. I have had those things for a while now, but I finally purchased maternity/nursing bras and maternity/nursing pjs this month, and I am kicking myself for waiting so long. You can click here t0 check out my very favorite bras (I have black and gray) and I also got this one in nude and this one in gray. But the first one I linked is my favorite. Here are the links to the maternity/nursing pjs I got- top // sleep pants. They are very lightweight and comfortable. Those are the only maternity things I’ve bought so far. I have bought a few new tops and sweaters, but they are all nonmaternity- I’ve just sized up to fit the bump. This sweatshirt is probably my most worn item in my closet.

  • What we are most looking forward to: our baby’s arrival!!!!

  • Apps I've used: Ovia Pregnancy, The Bump, & Babylist

  • Products I've been loving (same things I’ve been using):

*my Snoogle pregnancy pillow (I think this is the number 1 item I suggest for all expecting mamas. I can’t imagine sleeping without it.)

*this cocoa butter lotion for stretch marks (I have never liked lotion, and I’ve only ever worn face moisturizer my whole life. This stuff has no smell and dries quickly. Best lotion ever, even for a non lotion lover.)

a heating pad (for my back)

    *Nexium to prevent nausea

*Books: What to Expect When You're Expecting, The Nanny Connie Way, What to Expect the First Year, Moms on Call, Dr. Spock’s Baby and Child Care

  • Purchases for baby: I have a whole page on my blog under Shop My Favorites called Favorite Baby Items, and that is where I’m sharing the things we have purchased and received so far for our baby!

Weekly Fun

Week 35- My parents and Parker’s parents came up this week for Thanksgiving! I’m so grateful they did! We had the best time- eating, shopping, watching football, and just hanging out! We hung my mom’s paintings up in the nursery, and I feel like they make it the happiest space! I could not love them more. The nursery is almost complete! In other news, the aches and pains hit this week (of course while our parents were in town, ugh). I honestly feel like I had been having a pretty easy pregnancy (minus the nausea that occurred at night between weeks 8 and 20), but now my entire body basically hurts. I feel like there is a foot between my ribs, and I broke my toe when I got off the sofa to put the rolls in the oven. I kicked the sofa leg. Ouch. And I caught a cold. Ok, that’s enough of the negativity, but in case it appears that my pregnancy is a walk in the park, I’m here to tell you that things started getting real uncomfortable this week. In more exciting news, I took advantage of lots of amazing sales and ordered some things I cannot wait to have! I ordered my diaper bag, a bassinet, some bottles, some clothes from Mud Pie, some clothes from Charming Mary, bedding from Pottery Barn Kids, a bed skirt & some Wubbanubs from Target, some nursing bras from Kindred Bravely, and some nursing pajamas. Whoa, that sounds like a lot when I type it all out, but they were basically all necessary items on major sale. :)

IMG_6619.JPG

Week 36- Weekly doctor’s appointments started this week. Before our doctor’s appointment, we went and got our car seat checked at the hospital. They will make sure it is installed correctly before you bring the baby home. Parker gets an A+ because he installed that thing correctly with 0 help from me. Then, we went to our appointment. Our doctor has stressed so many times that the most important thing that can be happening right now is that our baby is moving. No worries in that department. I read or heard somewhere that it’s harder to feel babies move as they get bigger because they’re running out of space in there. Not the case for this baby. He is moving more than ever! I had been feeling some serious rib pain, and the doctor did his first exam and said that the baby’s head is down, so his feet are most likely in my ribs. We will know for sure next week at our ultrasound! Something else strange that has been happening is that my hands are numb when I wake up. I brought this up to my doctor, and he immediately said carpal tunnel. He said this is common with pregnancy, and it should go away shortly after the baby is here. I’m getting progressively more uncomfortable, and my face is beyond swollen. In other news, my cyber week purchases have been coming in this week, and it feels like Christmas! I washed the baby’s bedding and put it in his crib, and some adorable clothes came in! So did my diaper bag, Medela breast pump, and our stroller from my parents! I also spent hours googling how to clean certain brands of pacifiers and bottles, and then I got those all cleaned and found a place for them. Oh my goodness, things are feeling real!

WWeek 37- We got to have our 37 week ultrasound the day that I hit 37 weeks. I had to look back at my bumpdate posts to remember that our last one was at 28 weeks. It felt like it had been forever since we got to see our baby! The ultrasound tech told us that his measurements are showing that he weighs 7 pounds, and he is taking up every inch of space in there. She also told  us he has chubby cheeks and pointed out the little hair on his head too! She said he was doing some practice breathing. I had to ask if that was a good thing. She said yes! And she confirmed that the baby’s head is down, his bottom is up, and his legs and feet are on both sides of my ribs. So that explains the rib pain. After we finished our ultrasound, we were told our doctor had to go deliver a baby, so then we had to wait quite a while to see him. Thinking that that could be our baby he’s delivering soon was surreal! Once we finally got to see him, he said the ultrasound showed that he’s a healthy baby! Yay! I got my second exam and my TDAP shot. I also asked my doctor if he had any idea of when he thought the baby might be here. He said not really, but if he had to guess, he would say that the baby will make it to his due date. We shall see! Parker and I both packed our bags, and we finished up all of the last minute things we had left to do in the nursery!

Week 38- We had our doctor’s appointment yesterday, and the doctor basically said I could go into labor anytime this week or next week, so make sure all my stuff is ready to go. He said they would call me sometime soon to schedule an induction for after Christmas just in case the baby does not come by his due date. My favorite part about the appointments has to be when the doctor asks me if things are happening without me having to say a word about them. He said this baby has dropped very low, is your back killing you? Does it hurt to walk? Are you having to go to the bathroom just about every time you stand up? Yes, yes, and yes. I guess those things are common at this point, but I loved that he was the one to mention those things that Parker had heard me complaining about for the past couple of weeks. The discomfort/back pain/waddle is still going strong, but most things on our to do list are complete, so I feel like I’m almost to the point of being able to relax before this baby boy comes!

A Christmas Gift You Can Add to Yearly

Hey Y’all! After enjoying a busy Thanksgiving & cyber week, catching a cold, and preparing for a baby, I needed to take a little break from blog posts. However, I’m so excited to be back this week! I’m sharing a fun Christmas gift idea today, and my 38 Week Bumpdate will go live on Thursday with all the updates! I’m actually 38 weeks today!

Onto today’s topic- a fun Christmas gift idea that you can add to every year. Or every holiday for that matter! I discovered Coton Colors shortly after college when I was teaching in Huntsville. However, I didn’t start my own collection until Parker and I got married and moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas. It’s safe to say that ever since then, I have adored it!

IMG_7363.jpg

They make beautiful tabletop items, serveware, decor, ornaments, and items for all celebrations in life. My favorite things all happen to be in their Happy Everything collection, and that is what I’m focusing on in today’s post. Let me explain.

IMG_7352 2.jpg

How It Works:

  1. Choose a base.

IMG_7361.jpg

2. Choose attachments.

IMG_7358.jpg

3. Velcro the attachments onto the base.

IMG_7353 2.jpg

4. Switch out attachments for every reason and season!

IMG_7351.jpg

Bases:

There are a lot to choose from! And there are two sizes- big and mini. There are big platters and cookie jars. I have this big white dot platter, this big bright dot platter, and this big cookie jar (except mine has polka dots). There are also big bowls and big wreaths. And some mini bases include soap pumps (my mom’s favorite base), bowls, vases, cookie jars, frames, platters, and canisters.

Big Bases:

Mini Bases:

Attachments:

This is the fun part! Attachments stick onto bases with velcro. You can choose so many different attachments for all different celebrations and seasons. This is where the size is important. If you have a big base, then you want to order big attachments. And if you have a mini base, then you want to order mini attachments. I have some that are holiday and season specific and some that can be used any day. I wish I had ALL of them! :)

Big Attachments:

Mini Attachments:

Gift Examples:

For Christmas last year, Parker and I gave his mom a mini cookie jar and a few mini attachments. For Mother’s Day this year, Ebie and I gave my mom a large platter and a large attachment. Now, we are able to add to their collections and give them another attachment or 2 for Christmas or whatever holiday may arise!

I took the photo below at my baby shower, and you can see my mom’s mini cookie jar in the back right. She put one of my sonogram photos in a frame attachment- most adorable decoration! You can see a tiny glimpse of her polka dotted soap dispenser on the left. We love Coton Colors!

A421D065-3375-4DF1-864E-35F09170C682.jpg

Below is a picture of a big platter, and I have a plate stand to display it. Our house in Southaven doesn’t have as much space as our house did in Fayetteville, so it is not currently being displayed. This picture was taken in Fayetteville. However, I wanted to show you a picture of what it looks like. Such a fun gift!

IMG_5609.jpg

You can’t go wrong with a cookie jar, platter, soap dispenser, or any other base/attachment combo. They make such cute and fun gifts that last a lifetime! And it’s so easy to think of gifts for the future- everybody wants to add attachments to their collection! Thanks so much for reading! Have a wonderful day!

Cyber Week Sales

The biggest shopping week of the year is here! I will have blog posts Tuesday, Thursday for early access Black Friday sales, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday covering all of the best deals!

E0AE253E-8DDF-4C9C-BAF0-209A364D9DE4.jpg

It seems like stores start their sales earlier and earlier every year. Some of the sales going on are already amazing! I have bought a couple of sweaters, as well as a diaper bag and some other baby items, because it’s hard to believe the deals could get any better.

In today’s post, I’m going to feature the 3 best items to buy now, the best sale happening right now, and then a roundup of all the other sales currently happening! Now is definitely the time to start buying gifts for the people on your Christmas list if you haven’t already!

The Best Items to Buy Now

EDITED- I shared yesterday that the one best thing to buy right now is this city coat. While I still think that is the best thing to currently buy, I’m sharing 2 more things that are on sale and would also be amazing purchases!

  1. Spanx faux leather leggings are on sale for 20% off! They are so flattering and perfect for the holidays! If you’ve had your eye on them, now is the time to buy. If you are between sizes, I would size up because they are pretty fitted. Mine are a size large.

IMG_6065.jpg

2. My favorite sweater ever is this Free People sweater. It is currently 40% off! I have a bright pink color from last year that is not available this year. However, I did purchase the blue one also because I love it so much! Mine is a medium, and it was oversized last year, and it is still oversized at 8 months pregnant. I’d say go with your regular size if you want an oversized fit or size down if you don’t want it quite as big. It comes in 6 colors, and this is the best price I have ever seen it!

Facetune_21-11-2018-10-43-28.JPG

3. The best item to buy right now is a city coat! I got one last year, and it has been my favorite coat ever since! My family clearly loves it- I have pink, my mom has green, and my sister has purple! The shade of pink they came out with this year is different from mine, but there are so many gorgeous color options- 8 to be exact! If you prefer neutral colors to bright colors, here are some pictures I took last year of the more neutral colored city coats!

3AF6B4C4-175C-4A68-8754-05A2B8FBB63B.JPG

It is currently marked down from $178 to $98. It does not usually get marked down more than that. So many colors and sizes sold out last year during Cyber Week, so I wanted to highlight it early this year, especially while it is marked down so much! This one is more expensive and very similar if you want to check out the pricier version!

Facetune_19-11-2018-18-43-51.JPG

It does run big. If you are between sizes, size down. I like my coats to be a little big, so I can wear layers underneath it. I got a size 6 last year, and it fit perfectly. It’s getting a little snug at 8 months pregnant, but the fact that it still somewhat fits shows that it definitely runs big! You can click here to check it out!

34 Week Bumpdate

We are officially less than 6 weeks away from our due date, and it is surreal that we will actually have a baby boy joining our family that soon. This month, we had a baby shower, made lots of progress in the nursery, attended expectant parent classes, and did lots more things that I will be sharing below!

31 Weeks- 34 Weeks

  • Due Date: December 25, 2018

  • Baby is the size of a: butternut squash- 17.7 inches, 4.63 pounds (34 weeks), celery (33 weeks), squash (32 weeks), asparagus (31 weeks)- all of this info came from The Bump app

  • Total weight gain: I have officially stopped looking at the number on the scale when I get weighed. I know that I have gained at least 30 lbs. I also know that I’m growing a little human in me, and it’s normal to gain a lot of weight. But whoa- seeing that number on the scale is shocking. I would try to not eat or drink a lot before my appointments because that number was freaking me out, and that was not good because it would make my blood pressure low. So I am just doing my best to stay healthy and hydrated, and I can worry about my weight later on. The doctor told me yesterday everything looks great and to keep doing what I’m doing, so I’m going to keep doing what I can to be healthy. And also keep not looking at the number on the scale. :)

  • The bump: I feel like it is growing by the second. I was asked for the first time ever by a stranger about being pregnant- the sweet cashier at Trader Joe’s asked me how many months I had left.

  • Symptoms: My feet hurt for days after I wore block heels to a wedding. I will not be wearing heels from here on out! My back hurts from time to time, but a heating pad helps so much with that. I also feel like I pulled my right leg out of socket, but my doctor said I did not- that’s just my body preparing for having a baby. Sleeping is hit or miss. Wanting to organize/prepare like crazy for baby. Walking like a slow poke. Nothing too crazy overall. I am just so grateful for this gift of pregnancy!

  • Food cravings: all the sweets & fruit

  • Food aversions: They are completely gone!

  • Sleep: I either sleep like a rock, or I’m wide awake and cannot go back to sleep for hours and hours. Once I wake up, my mind has 4 million thoughts going on, and I can’t go back to sleep.

  • What I miss: getting up off the sofa or bed without a groan; wearing my wedding ring; comfortably bending over to paint my toenails, putting my shoes and socks on, and shaving my legs. I have listed these last things in 2 previous bumpdates, but they are on a whole new level now. I despise pedicures, and I had to go to a nail salon to get my toes done because it is not possible to paint them myself anymore.

  • Movement: Lots of movement is happening! Parker finally felt it at 33 weeks! Although he didn’t believe it was the baby and said it was just me moving my stomach. Fortunately, it happened a second time and he felt it again, right after the first time, so I think he may actually believe it was the baby.

  • Maternity clothes: these Zella maternity leggings (they’re finally back in stock!!!), these maternity jeans, and these maternity jeans. I also ordered this maternity/nursing bra and this one too. Those are the only maternity things I’ve bought so far. I have bought a few new dresses, tops, and sweaters, but they are all nonmaternity- I’ve just sized up to fit the bump. I did buy a couple new things this month that have been really helpful though, like these Spanx knockoffs for under $10 (I sized up to an XL because I’m not trying to suffocate my stomach). I also bought these pajama pants (for under $8!) in a size large because who wants tight pjs? Not me.

  • What we are most looking forward to: our parents coming up to visit for Thanksgiving!!! and our last expectant parents class this Saturday because we are ready to get to sleep in on Saturdays again before this baby gets here! :) and last but certainly not least- our next ultrasound at 37 weeks!

  • Apps I've used: Ovia Pregnancy, The Bump, & Babylist

  • Products I've been loving (same things I’ve been using):

*this cocoa butter lotion for stretch marks (I have never liked lotion, and I’ve only ever worn face moisturizer my whole life. This stuff has no smell and dries quickly. Best lotion ever, even for a non lotion lover.)

*my Snoogle pregnancy pillow (helps so much with my back when I’m trying to sleep)

a heating pad (also for my back)

    *Nexium to prevent nausea

*Books: What to Expect When You're Expecting, The Nanny Connie Way, What to Expect the First Year, Moms on Call, Dr. Spock’s Baby and Child Care

  • Purchases for baby: I have a page on my blog under Shop My Favorites called Favorite Baby Items, and that is where I’m sharing the things we have purchased and received so far for our baby! We are now buying last minute things to finish up the nursery and get ready for our baby boy’s arrival!

Weekly Fun

Week 31- Parker put together our crib, so we officially have one piece of baby furniture assembled! Our glider came in too, but our shower is this weekend, so Parker will have to put together the glider and changing table the following weekend (he says those are weekend jobs). My sister and 4 best friends (one not pictured) threw me the most perfect baby shower! You can click here to read all about it if you haven’t already.

Week 32- This was a busy week- Bailey’s birthday, my mom’s birthday, Parker’s birthday, a doctor’s appointment, my first class at the hospital, and a friend’s wedding. It was a very fast doctor’s appointment. My doctor said they’re supposed to be at this point- they’re really just monitoring growth and movement. Baby’s growing and moving, so it was a successful appointment! My class was a breastfeeding class, and I learned a lot. I feel like there are so many basics I’m still learning, like a baby is supposed to eat 8-12 times a day… whoa! This was also a big week because we finally got a lot done in the baby’s room. Parker put together the changing table, and I washed alllllll of the clothes, swaddles, towels, blankets, and baby things. So I was finally able to get a lot of organizing done!

Dress details- I actually got my dress several years ago. It was a $297 Trina Turk dress on sale for $63. It was a couple sizes too big, but I decided to snag it anyway for that price and get it altered. Well, I fortunately never got it altered, and…

Dress details- I actually got my dress several years ago. It was a $297 Trina Turk dress on sale for $63. It was a couple sizes too big, but I decided to snag it anyway for that price and get it altered. Well, I fortunately never got it altered, and it ended up fitting perfectly at 32 weeks pregnant!

Week 33- After the craziness of last week, I tried to take it easier this week. I didn’t have a doctor’s appointment, so I was able to get lots of blog-related things done, catch up on thank you notes, and continue organizing the baby’s room. I’m finally starting to feel like it’s getting there! We also went to an Expecting Parents class over the weekend. Parker was not thrilled about going because it took place on gameday from 9-12 in Memphis, but he did say that he learned new things. And we won a pack of diapers because Parker was the biggest baby in the room. They also told us that the dad’s size is a good indicator of what the baby’s size will be, so there’s that. And then we ate lunch at PF Changs after the class, so that was fun.

Week 34- I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday. It was another fast one. Got to hear the baby’s heartbeat and chat with our doctor who we love so much. He said everything looks perfect! He also gave us the name of a pediatrician who he went to school with and highly recommends. The best part- the pediatrician works in Southaven, so that will be much more convenient than having to make the 30+ minute drive to Memphis. He also wrote me a prescription for a Willow wearable breast pump, so I will work on ordering that today. Not many other things to report just yet because I’m only 34 weeks and 2 days, but we will be attending another expecting parents class this Saturday from 9-5. It’s our last one, and someone from the class last week mentioned that it is the most graphic. Yikes.

Top Picks from the Nordstrom Fall Sale + Gifts You Can Score for a Steal

Parker and I have started working on buying Christmas gifts for our families lately because this Christmas is going to be so different for us. We’re trying to knock out all of our familys’ gifts as early as possible, so we can give them to our parents when they come up for Thanksgiving next week! This way they can bring them home since we won’t be making it home this Christmas.

With all that said, this Nordstrom Sale that is going on right now is the perfect time to stock up on gifts. Everything I’m sharing today is between 20 and 50% off. I worked really hard to narrow down my favorites to my top 25. I basically have or want every single thing I’m sharing today. So whether you are wanting to treat yourself or get your Christmas shopping going, I hope today’s post is helpful!

Outfit Ideas for Thanksgiving

Hey y’all! I took an unplanned day off from blogging on Tuesday because things have been so busy around here! Between the doctor’s appointments, expectant parent classes, birthday festivities, and doing all the things to prepare for a baby, time has been flying lately!

However, I’m excited about today’s blog post, as well as some blog posts I have coming up. Holiday gift guides are in the works! And Black Friday is right around the corner!

Ok, onto today’s topic- Thanksgiving! I am ecstatic for Thanksgiving this year. Parker usually has to work the days before and after Thanksgiving, so we typically can’t travel home. So we typically spend Thanksgiving with just the 2 of us- and Bailey and Rosie of course. I wrote a blog post last year on how to make Thanksgiving fun when you’re not with family- you can click here to check it out. While we have fun doing that, we are much more excited about Thanksgiving this year. Both of our moms and dads are coming up to Southaven, and we are counting down!

We’re not planning anything too crazy because I will be a month away from my due date, but we are so looking forward to the company! And I need some help with some last minute nursery decisions. My parents are bringing the two paintings my mom painted for our baby boy’s room, and I really think they will tie everything together!

Because I will be a month away from my due date, I will most definitely be dressing in a comfy outfit for Thanksgiving. However, I’m going to share a few different outfit options with you today! Plus, they could be helpful if you’re planning for Thanksgiving week- nights out with friends, visits with family, Thanksgiving dinner, Thanksgiving night, Black Friday shopping, etc.

Tunic & Leggings

This is the type of outfit I will be going with! My favorite leggings are Zella leggings- I get messages frequently from people who purchase them and say their lives are now changed because they are the best leggings they have ever owned! They are stretchy, figure-sculpting leggings with a no slip waistband. Comfy and flattering!

Sweater & Jeans

This is another great outfit option for Thanksgiving day, as long as your jeans are comfortable and your sweater is loose fitting! Rockstar 24/7 jeggings (in black here) are the most comfortable jeans I have found! I have been living in the maternity pair!

Dress & Booties

Ok, so all of the dresses I’m sharing below are the same. :) It is clearly my favorite dress for fall- so comfortable, classic, and cute! It runs true to size. I wore medium before pregnancy and large with a bump. Here are some prints that are still in stock- charcoal | gray & white | abstract scroll white | ice blue | snakeskin |
