Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

For the first day of February, I'm sharing some Valentine's Day gift ideas! I've always loved this fun day. From trading cards and candy in elementary school to movies/girls' nights in college, and now to a pretty low key date night with Parker, I've enjoyed it throughout all stages of life!

Whether you are celebrating with the girls or a significant other, it's always fun to gift someone a cute little treat on Valentine's Day. It might just be a Reese's heart and some pink flowers, or you could share this post with a loved one and let them know your top favorite picks. :) OR if you have a Valentine who has been known to not live up to your standards, treat yourself! I am personally LOVING the jewelry in the collage below!

My First Experience with Self Tanner

I honestly cannot believe that I am writing a blog post about this. I was always the girl in the Tridelt house saying ew gross, I will never use that. The smell of the Jergens tanning lotion has been what I've associated sunless tanner with for years. If you've ever gotten a whiff of it, then you know it is NOT a pleasant smell.

However, after learning how much damage the sun does to our skin and doing a good bit of research on self tanners, I have found one that I can stand behind. And if you follow many fashion bloggers, you will not be surprised by what I am sharing today. A great majority of bloggers who use sunless tanner use St. Tropez Classic Bronzing Mousse

I actually purchased this product in October, but I was too nervous to try it until I bought a skirt and an off the shoulder top in December. My skin is naturally very fair, so goodness knows that I get extremely pale in the winter. I feel better in my clothes when my skin has some color, so this new outfit motivated me to try self tanner for the first time ever!

Before I Applied Sunless Tanner:

  • I read every word on the bottle and spent hours reading reviews online. I also stumbled upon this video and watched it several times to make sure I knew the right way to apply it.
  • I learned that I needed to shave my legs and exfoliate the day before applying.
  • I also put on lotion after shaving and exfoliating.
  • I'm using the pictures below as my before pictures because it was the metallic skirt and off the shoulder top that inspired me to try self tanner!
Turtleneck // Metallic Skirt (currently $27.49!)

Ruffle Top (currently $13.99!) // Peplum Velvet Skirt (currently $18.99!)

Ruffle Top (currently $13.99!) // Peplum Velvet Skirt (currently $18.99!)

While Applying Sunless Tanner:

  • I used this mitt, so that I wouldn't get streaky orange hands AKA one of my biggest fears (because I could hide a lot of my body since it's winter, but hands aren't as easy to hide).
  • I pumped the self tanner onto the mitt and applied it using upward circular motions.
  • I read that you don't need a new pump of self tanner when applying to hands and feet, so I just used the excess tanner on the mitt for those two areas (after I had used the majority of it on my legs and arms).
  • I struggled to reach my back and prepared myself to have a super splotchy back.

After Applying Sunless Tanner

  • The directions said to wait until touch dry before getting dressed. This stuff dries immediately, so I did not have to wait long at all.
  • I put on loose fitting clothing.
  • The bottle says that there is no self tan smell, but I have a strong sense of smell and was able to smell it.
  • I was supposed to wait 4-8 hours before getting wet. I took the picture below after having the tanner on for 4 hours and thought I was looking pretty dark, so I decided to hop in the shower right after snapping this pic.
IMG_9542.jpg
  • Once I got out of the shower, my tan (thankfully) did not look as dark.
  • Lots of things I read stressed the importance of moisturizing every day to prolong the tan.
  • I moisturized every day, and I'd say my tan lasted about a week. It never got streaky or weird looking. It just disappeared naturally. I'd call that a win!
  • The picture below shows what my tan looked like after 2 days (when I could get Parker to take a picture for me :) ).
IMG_9641.jpg

My Final Thoughts

I really like this stuff! I would never use it without a mitt because I think it would leave my hands streaky. However, the mitt kept my hands protected and allowed me to apply the tanner very evenly!

I don't know how it's even possible because I know I was unable to reach all of my back, but my back was not splotchy. Everything looked evenly applied! Also, I did not use it on my face. I would use this tanning product that is actually made for the face, if I were to put self tanner on my face.

The only negative I can think of is the smell. It was nowhere near as bad as the Jergens smell, but I could still smell a slight self tan smell (even after my shower).

Oh wait, one more negative is the price. It is not cheap, but it is a lot cheaper than going to get spray tans. After 2 uses, I still have about 80% of my bottle left. So I believe it will last a while.

I actually used it again yesterday (for the second time) to make sure none of my thoughts changed before publishing this post this morning. :) None of my opinions changed. I do think it gets easier with time though. The first time I used it, I was so nervous that it took me 25-30 minutes to apply. It took me less than 10 minutes yesterday.

My skirt and ruffle top are SO affordable right now! They are on sale plus an additional 50% off with code SAVENOW. I've never seen an article of clothing for under $15 at J.Crew! Amazing!

Anyway, I can officially say I am a fan of St. Tropez Classic Bronzing Mousse! Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!

What to Wear for a Casual Valentine's Day

Does anyone prepare their outfits a month in advance?? Me neither. :) I do like to wear pink and red leading up to Valentine's Day. Maybe that's a teacher thing. My students always liked to wear their Valentine's Day clothes leading up to Valentine's Day (AKA the most insane day of the school year), and they loved it when I wore festive outfits too.

IMG_1440.JPG

Sweater | Faux Leather Leggings | Wedges | Earrings | Kendra Scott Bracelet | David Yurman Bracelet

So today, I'm sharing an outfit that could actually be worn any day, but the rose color of the sweater makes it the perfect option for a casual Valentine's Day. And I wanted to go ahead and post about this sweater now because it has sold out at several retailers. It already sold out at Nordstrom and Revolve. However, I found it in stock at Dillard's and Free People. It also comes in gray and red (which is actually more like a burnt orange), if rose is not your thing.

IMG_1441.JPG

My mom gave me this sweater for Christmas. She also gave it to my mother in law for Christmas. It looks so cute on her! It is a sweater that is perfect for all ages. My mother in law mentioned that she loves the cowl neck because it is so comfortable. It's not one of those necklines that chokes you. It lays so nicely! My favorite part is the length. It's perfect to wear with skinny jeans or leggings, which is always a win in my book!

IMG_1442.JPG

I paired it with some Spanx faux leather leggings because 1. I love them 2. They are so comfortable while also flattering and 3. They seemed to dress up this look a little more than a regular pair of leggings.

IMG_1439.jpg

I also threw on these wedges because they seemed to make this look a little dressier too. However, if the snow and frigid temps stick around, I will most definitely be in closed toe shoes. I actually wore it with these Rockstar jeggings and boots while I was in Dothan over Christmas, so here is another way to style this sweater. Thanks to Peyton Marie and Ann Clay for the photo!

IMG_1443.JPG

I have a dressy Valentine's Day outfit post coming soon and a gift guide too! Parker and I usually don't go too crazy for this holiday, but we always like to do something little to celebrate!

Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!

Snow Day Essentials

Having lived in the south my whole life, I am clearly no expert on hardcore snow gear. What I'm sharing today is just a fun list of things we have used during the past few snow days we've had this week. And for the record, multiple snow days in one week is way more snow days than we are supposed to get in Mississippi (in my opinion). Our pups would agree with me. They are very confused by the snow and are not fans of it touching their paws.

Life Lately

Life has been so go-go-go lately that I felt the need to slow down this week. I mean, I just got around to taking our Christmas decorations down on Sunday (insert embarrassed emoji). I planned on taking the first week of January off from the blog, but then the Lilly sale happened and I obviously couldn't miss out on that fun. I'm sorry for the lack of posts! I'm hoping to return to a more consistent schedule next week.

Today, I'm sharing a post about all of the things that have been happening lately! Parker and I had the best week and a half at home with our families for Christmas, and I like to have these pictures all in one place for the memories. :) Warning- this post is long and photo heavy.

Mobile for Christmas

Parker and I got to Mobile on December 20th. The day after we got home, we went to get my Christmas present from my parents and Parker- my new phone! I have had so much fun taking pictures with it. Portrait mode is the coolest!

One day, we met my dad downtown and went on a duck boat tour! I honestly did not know what to expect. The duck boat pictured below took us around downtown Mobile by road and water, and we had the best time! Our tour guide was fabulous. He was super entertaining and taught all of us things about Mobile that we did not already know.

IMG_1005.jpg

Another night, we met up with a couple of my besties at Moe's. It had been way too long since I'd seen these girls. I cannot even wait much longer for all of Kelly's wedding festivities to begin next month... so much BFF time coming soon!

IMG_1006.JPG
IMG_1007.JPG

Rosie turned 4 on Christmas Eve! I truly cannot believe it. Her personality brings us so much joy and keeps us laughing. The vet told us she'll grow out of the puppy phase around age 7, so we still get to enjoy puppy Rose for a few more years. :)

IMG_0231.JPG

She loved her birthday bone from Dog Days Barkery in Mobile. We also grabbed some stocking stuffers for both girls while we were there. This place is highly recommended by Bailey and Rosie! And Parker and I liked it too. The people were so friendly and helpful.

IMG_3477.jpg

Parker and I try to get a Christmas picture each year of the 4 of us. We took the picture below before Christmas Eve church.

IMG_1008.jpg

I never shared these ribbon wrapped hoop earrings before Christmas because they sold out so fast. They are now back in stock in pink and red, and they would be the cutest addition to any Valentine's Day outfit! It's kinda hard to see, but I wore the red pair with my Christmas Eve outfit!

My Aunt Robin outdoes herself for Christmas every single year! This year she had a gingerbread theme, and as you will see below- a real life gingerbread man came over to visit!

We had the most delicious breakfast on Christmas morning. The cinnamon roll casserole was my favorite, and the mimosas were fun too!

I did not take nearly enough pictures on Christmas day. We got to see my dad’s family, but I don’t have any pictures to document it. The photo below is the only one I have that we are actually in on Christmas day. We love our J.Crew Factory city coats!

IMG_0355.JPG

Dothan: December 26- December 31

We left my family the day after Christmas and went to Dothan to visit Parker's family! We trade every year. Next year we will be with Parker's family in Dothan on Christmas day.

The day we got to Dothan, Parker's sister had us all over to her house for a delicious dinner. And then we opened our gifts. Fun fact- The first year I went to visit Parker's family right after Christmas, they made me sit in the middle of the room and wear reindeer antlers while I opened my stack of presents and everyone watched. Unfortunately, they couldn't find those antlers this year. :) Like I said, we'll be in Dothan for Christmas next year, so we will all open our gifts together then!

Going to Hunts is something we look forward to every Christmas! We love their oysters.

IMG_0393.jpg

We also loved getting to catch up with Parker's friends! We had so much fun getting dinner and drinks with Tiffany and Floyd!

IMG_0433 2.jpg

On our second to last day in town, I had a fun day with my nieces. We went to lunch, took blog photos, and went shopping. It was actually the most fun I have ever had taking blog photos. They helped me try out some new poses, and then I got some pictures with each of them. We should have brought Parker along... they could have taught him how much fun taking pictures actually can be!

IMG_1017.JPG
IMG_1018.JPG

Parker's sweet sister Allyson gave me this Lilly Pulitzer poncho because it was a little long on her. Such a sweet gift right before the huge Lilly sale!

IMG_0658.JPG

We got back to Southaven on New Year's Eve! We had the best time with our families, but it's always nice to get back into a routine. However, blog duties hit fast! With the Lilly sale and my Neutrogena collaboration, I felt like I was constantly playing a game of catch up.

IMG_0917.JPG

So, I gave myself some days off of blog posts this week. We finally took the Christmas decorations down, cleaned the house, transferred our calendars, and I am just now starting to feel caught up. Whew! Busy start to the New Year, and I'm excited for all of the fun things in store for 2018!

Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!

Winter Q&A

After the craziness of the Lilly sale, I'm excited to switch gears today and share a more personal post. I was tagged by my sweet friend Jennifer from Sincerely, Mrs. JMM to participate in this Winter Tag. It includes a fun list of questions- a couple are about the holidays, but most of them are winter related.

Winter has definitely arrived, and I'm already ready to say goodbye to the frigid temps. However, Parker and I still have our Christmas decorations up, so I guess you could say we're not quite ready to part ways with the holidays just yet.  Orrrr we were home in Alabama for 2 weeks and hit the ground running when we got back to Southaven and haven't had the time to put them away. Regardless, I'm really excited about this Winter Q&A!

What is your favorite holiday tradition?

My favorite holiday tradition actually begins before we head home for the holidays. Parker and I do our own Christmas before we travel to be with our families. We get dressed up and go to a fun Christmas dinner, drink some wine, and open our stockings (and the pups' stockings). It's always fun to have this time together before we head back to Alabama!

Outfit Details: Dress // Tights

Outfit Details: Dress // Tights

What is your favorite go-to winter lip product?

My favorite winter lip product is actually my favorite lip product of the entire year. I cannot live without Blistex Lip Medex. I started using it in high school and have never found anything that compares. I linked a 3 pack on Amazon, but you can also find it at CVS and some Targets. I wrote more about it in this Three Things Thursday post. As you can tell from the picture below, I have quite a few and LOVE it!

1500401732523.jpeg

What is your favorite winter scent?

Christmas tree! Parker and I stock up on Christmas tree candles when they go on sale after Christmas and burn them all year long! I'm not picky about where they come from. I love them all- Bath & Body Works, Anthropologie, Walmart... as long as it smells like a Christmas tree, we love it!

What is your go-to winter fashion trend?

Leggings and oversized sweaters! And sweatshirt dresses. Parker’s parents gave me this ruffle sweatshirt dress for Christmas, and it is going to be my new uniform! I clearly love all the comfy clothes!

What is your all time favorite holiday tune?

All I Want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey for my fun Christmas tune and Mary, Did You Know for my actual Christmas tune. This became my favorite when Jordan Smith sang it on The Voice!

Do you prefer to travel or stay home for the holidays?

I LOVE being home and enjoying our Christmas decorations, but we have to travel to be with our families. So I would have to say I prefer to travel because that is the only way we can be with our families.

IMG_0074 2.JPG
IMG_0723.JPG

What is your favorite winter skin care must have?

I am very picky about lotion. I have honestly never loved it. However, it is obviously necessary for your skin, so I put a very light lotion on my face in the morning and at night. I used to only wear this Bobbi Brown hydrating face cream. However, I stumbled upon a really light Nivea lotion that is a tiny fraction of the price and works just as well! I linked it on Amazon, but you can find it at Target or basically any drug store.

What is your favorite winter hair care product?

I don't really use hair products, aside from shampoo and conditioner. I'm trying to teach myself to use dry shampoo, so I don't have to wash my hair every day. So I guess I would have to say Batiste dry shampoo. I do like this brand much better than the other brands I have tried.

What is your favorite winter activity?

Does sitting on the sofa with Parker (and the pups) and watching a movie count? I HATE the cold weather.

IMG_9196.jpg

Do you love or dislike the snow?

HATE.

What is one item on your wish list this year?

The item on my Christmas wishlist I was most excited about receiving was my new phone! My parents and Parker split it, and I could not be more grateful. I had been using my iPhone 6 since March of 2015, so this iPhone X camera is basically life changing. And a huge help for blog pictures!

What is your favorite holiday treat?

Red velvet cake balls! Recipe here.

IMG_0013.JPG

Do you finish your holiday shopping before December or are you a last minute shopper?

I think we finished close to the beginning of December this year. We have to order everything early to make sure it comes in before we head home for the holidays.

IMG_9712.jpg

Thanks again to Jennifer for the tag in this fun Q&A! You can read her answers here. I want to get more personal posts up this year, so this was a fun way to get started!

Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!

Three Things Thursday

I'm finally back with another Three Things Thursday post today! it's been too long since I wrote my last one, and I had so much fun putting this one together. I'm going to shoot for at least one of these a month. Now, let's get into the 3 totally unrelated things that I am so excited to share with you!

1. Nativity Scenes

My mom has collected nativity scenes for as long as I can remember, and she has helped me start my own collection over the past few years. They are our favorite Christmas decoration, and they are also a great reminder of what the Christmas season is really about. I'm sharing pictures of 4 of my favorites below.

A. I got this one from Hobby Lobby last year!

B. I got this one last week from Target! You can click here to check it out!

IMG_9196.jpg

I realize this is a super random thing to share. However, my sister just purchased a sectional, which is what made me think about it. If you have been looking for a fabulous sectional, I highly suggest this one.

We got this couch when we moved into our house in Southaven back in March, and we could not be happier! I did months and months of research on sectionals. I was beyond ready to get rid of Parker's brown, ripped. faux suede leather sofa, loveseat, and recliner. Those things moved up to his mancave, and we finally got normal looking furniture for our living room!

It wasn't easy though.... after tons of online research, Parker and I went to 4 furniture stores in town (that were seriously disappointing) before we headed to Macy's in Memphis (thanks to my friend Emily for the recommendation!). I had no clue Macy's even sold furniture. As soon as we walked into the furniture section, we immediately knew we wanted the first one we saw.

The color is just what I was looking for. It's lighter than the dark brown we had, and y'all- the fabric is magical. Bailey and Rosie's muddy paw prints and Parker's red wine spills have been so easy to get out. Macy's sent some magical cleaning supplies, and they get everything out so easily!

I'm also bringing this sectional up today because it is on sale! It is currently marked down $1200! Maybe I should have dedicated an entire post to this sofa. I could go on and on about how much we love it, but I'll stop now. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out though!

IMG_9195.jpg
IMG_9030.JPG

I got my first sweatshirt dress when I went to the Nordstrom Rack Grand Opening party in Memphis a few months ago. At first, I thought it was an embarrassing thing to buy (because who actually wears these things?), but it was under $20 and so comfy that I purchased it anyway. And I'm here to tell you that money was well spent. I wear it every single weekend. It is so comfy!

The exact one I have is sold out, but Parker's parents are giving me this one for Christmas, and it is still in stock. Plus, I've linked quite a few options below. If you don't own one of these, you need one for comfy weekend wear!

Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!

Holiday Gift Guide: For Her

I have a whole Holiday Shop page on my blog, but the thought of putting a gift guide into a blog post has been intimidating me. There are so many fabulous options out there. How am I supposed to narrow these things down??

During the SEC Championship, I decided to stop overthinking this topic and make a list. I picked out 10 items that I own, love, and highly recommend. And I picked out 10 other items that I do not have but think any girl would love to receive as a gift. I chose several investment gifts because why not? I am most definitely not saying that I will be receiving these items, but if I can't dream big on a blog gift guide, then where can I?!

Plus, I will have a stocking stuffer/ under $25 gift guide coming soon, so I will save some of my favorite less expensive options for that post!

10 Gifts that Any Girl Would Love to Receive

We highly recommend these pajamas! Ebie and I both received our first pairs for Christmas last year and love them so much that our parents are giving us a second pair this year! You can click here for Ebie's matching set. And make sure you size down. I am wearing size small, and Ebie is wearing size XS.

If you'd like to see more gift ideas, scroll up to the top of the page, click Menu, Holiday Shop, and then you can choose which category you'd like to shop from!

What are you asking for? Of course there are several things that I would like to have, but I am most excited about getting a new phone to help with the quality of my pics! And gift cards are always something I look forward to! Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!
