Ok y'all, I know I say a lot of things are my favorites. However, there are so many things that qualify this dress as my actual favorite.
- The neutral colors
- The lightweight fabric
- The elbow bell sleeves
- The length
- The pockets
- The loose fit
- The tie closure
- The fact that it's machine washable
The list could go on and on. It's just so cute and fun! The only downside I can think of is how badly it wrinkles. The linen material causes this problem and unfortunately there's not much that can be done about it, especially after riding in the car for a while. However, I think the long list of pros far outweighs the one con!
When it was on sale last weekend for Memorial Day, my mom actually ordered it for us in the other color too. I think the purple combo will be so cute for summer and heading into fall too. Here is a photo of my mom wearing the same dress the same day that I wore mine. #twinsfromafar
This dress can be styled in several different ways for all kinds of occasions. My mom's first time wearing it was for a night out at the Florabama. My first time wearing it was for a day spent in Memphis with my husband and his sweet parents. My friend Emily who lives in Memphis gave me a fabulous list of suggestions of things we should do when planning a day in Memphis. We basically went from place to place based off of this screenshot I saved in my phone. I thought I would add it to this post just in case anyone ever plans on visiting Memphis and wants a solid list of suggestions. Thanks so much to Emily for such amazing recommendations!
We started our day out at Central BBQ for lunch. It was AMAZING. Other people clearly felt this way too, considering the line was wrapped around the building. It only took us about 15 minutes to get in though. Check out our plates below. Our first experience with Memphis barbecue could not have been better.
If you look closely at my photo of the restaurant sign above, you can see a sign for The Lorraine Motel in the background. This may be obvious to you, but in case you do not know, The Lorraine Motel is where Martin Luther King, Jr was assassinated. The National Civil Rights Museum is built around the former Lorraine Motel. We did not go into the museum (although zillions of people were- the line was insane), but we walked around outside and Parker's parents told us about how they remember this happening when they were in school.
After checking out this area for a little while, we got into the car and drove past Beale Street. To say it was crowded would be an understatement. To us, it compared to Bourbon Street in New Orleans. We will definitely be back at some point.
We kept going past Beale Street and headed on to Overton Square, which is an entertainment district in the heart of Midtown. It looked like a fun place with lots of restaurants, bars, and shops. However, it was deserted. Every other place we had been to was beyond crowded, so we knew something had to be wrong when we saw so few people here. It didn't take us long to realize the power was out. There was a terrible storm the night before with winds over 100 mph. The same storm hit us in Southaven (30 minutes away), but it wasn't as severe as it was in Memphis. We decided to walk around for a little while, regardless of the power outage, because it was a neat place.
We left Overton Square after walking around for a little while, and we headed to Loflin Yard... no power again. By this point, I had started to get a migraine and the power outage was stopping us from getting into the places on our list, so we headed back to Southaven.
Emily sent me the following pictures to show what some of the storm damage looked like. Huge trees were uprooted, power lines were knocked down, fences were blown over, and power has been out in many places since Saturday night. Thankfully she got her power back last night, but many are still without power. Prayers for them!
We got back home earlier than scheduled, which was definitely helpful for recovering from a migraine. This little girl was such a sweet and concerned caretaker.
I was clearly long-winded today. There was just so much to say about my favorite dress and our trip to Memphis! You're a champ if you made it this far! Do you have any other suggestions of things we need to do in Memphis? We have got to get back there soon. There's just so much to do! Thanks so much for reading! Have a great day!
