Charlie's Birth Day Party

Charlie’s due date was Christmas Day, but he was a little too cozy to make his arrival on time. We were ok with that too. Parker and I enjoyed a nice relaxing Christmas Day at home with our pups. Then, when I woke up the next day, Charlie had decided he was ready to get his birth day party started.

We had been waiting on a call from the doctor’s office because we were told they would schedule us for an induction if Charlie didn’t come by Christmas Day. The problem was that there were no availabilities at the hospital, so they couldn’t get us on the schedule. Fortunately, my water broke at some point the morning of the 26th. It wasn’t like the movies. I wasn’t even sure my water had broken. But the good news for us was that we didn’t have to wait for an availability anymore because my water broke. They had to get us in.

Anyway, Parker went to work that morning, so I texted him letting him know my water may have broken. He came rushing home, and then it was a waiting game. My doctor gave me his cell phone number at one of my first appointments and said to call his direct number if I ever needed anything. I never did until this day. I called and left him a voicemail, and we waited to hear back for hours. I packed allll the rest of my millions of things I planned to bring to the hospital, took all of our Christmas decorations down, Parker took down the tree, I swept out all the mess the tree made, Parker vacuumed it up, and then I ate lunch. I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and 2 cake balls. Big mistake. Huge. I should have eaten a 5 course meal. That would be the last meal I’d have for over 24 hours.

When the doctor still hadn’t responded by about 2:30, I called the doctor’s office. The nurse I spoke to said that our doctor was not in today but to come in so they could give me a test to see if my water had broken. Neither of us actually felt like we would really be having this baby at this time, but our car was packed and our house was clean, so we gave the pups treats and headed to the hospital.

It was so surreal. There was a funeral procession, so we had to stop for 5-10 minutes and wait for it to pass. We talked about how fortunate we were that we weren’t racing to get to the hospital with the fear of not making it in time for an epidural.

As soon as we got to the parking lot at the doctor’s office, my doctor finally returned my phone call. Hearing from him made me feel so much better! He was ready to come meet us as soon as this baby was ready to make his appearance.

I saw the doctor who was on call, and she did a strip test. If something turned blue, then that meant my water had broken. We still didn’t think it had actually broken untilllll the test confirmed it. My water had broken sometime that morning. The doctor checked me to see my progress, and I was dilated 0 cm.

The doctor then sent me to get an ultrasound to make sure the baby was still in a good position. Thankfully, he was! It was our fastest ultrasound yet, and we didn’t get any cute pictures or views of the baby. They wanted to get us to the hospital ASAP.

So, off we went. Still in disbelief. The hospital is connected to the doctor’s office, so we walked right on over and started checking in. I called my parents and Parker’s parents while we were waiting for our room.

We got to our room.... and I just asked Parker to help me with what happened next. His answer was we don’t remember. I said what? He said that’s when our brains turned to mush. I’m writing this a week and a half after Charlie was born. The sleep deprivation was real. So the rest of this post might not be as detailed. That’s probably for the best though. Labor and delivery is not all fun and games. (Edited to add- It actually continues to be very detailed and long. :) Baby photos are at the very end if that’s what you’re here for!)

So I changed into my hospital gown and socks they provided. Then, they hooked me up to the monitor where we could watch Charlie’s heart rate and my contractions. After that, they immediately started me on an IV since my water had broken a lot earlier that day, but the ultrasound lady had confirmed earlier that there was still a lot of fluid in there, so Charlie was well protected. I think it was at this point that they told me I  couldn’t eat anything else until a couple hours after Charlie was born. My stomach was already growling, so I knew that was not going to be good.

IMG_8192.JPG

Once everything was set up, Parker went to move the car from the doctor’s office to the hospital parking lot and get our bags. I’m not one to pack lightly, so this took several trips.

Nurses kept coming in and doing things, and one of them gave me an exam. I was still dilated 0 cm. That was not fun to hear. However, that was also going to change a lot faster than anyone expected. The nurse started me on cytotexh, which was supposed to help me start dilating. My doctor texted me around this point, and I told him what was happening. He said- “Perfect!! Most likely you’ll get 2-3 rounds of the cytotexh and be ready to deliver in the morning!! Woo hoo!!”

Parker and I had been wondering if he would be there to deliver Charlie, but since he was off, I didn’t know for sure. Every time we asked at appointments, he said he would be there for the birth day party. He always used that happy term, and I loved it, which is why I used it in the title of this post! So I finally just asked him if he was off the next day too. He said- “Yes....but not planning on missing this birth day party!! I’ll be in communication with your nurse tonight and see you guys in the AM!!! Dig in with pillows and blankets tonight (no relatives!!) try to get some rest!!!! Get ready to be parents December 27!!!!”

I can’t express in words how much I love him! I’m not exaggerating those exclamation marks in his texts. That was all him, and I loved it. Choosing a brand new doctor in a brand new city when expecting a baby is scary. I’m so thankful I have a great friend who lives in Memphis. She goes to this doctor and suggested him. Such a blessing!

IMG_8186.jpg

Back to the story- I did one round of cytotexh and dilated 1 centimeter. The contractions weren’t terrible at this point, but then they started a second round of cytotexh. It started out ok. The nurse asked if I wanted something to help with the pain. She said it would take the edge off, but the downside was that it could cause nausea. The pain was bearable, and I didn’t want to deal with nausea, so I said no. Another big mistake. Shortly after she left, the contractions started getting bad. She had been coming in every half hour, but she said she would try to let me get some rest since everything was going smoothly. So of course, the one time I actually wanted her to come back, she didn’t for what felt like forever. And I was SO HUNGRY too. Nothing could be done about that though. The ice chips did not help.

As soon as she did come back, I immediately said I want the medicine! She started it for me, and that was the only time for the foreseeable future (weeks, months?:) ) that I would (sort of) sleep. My pain level went down a lot, and I drifted in and out of sleep. Until she had to do another exam. That exam showed I had progressed from 1-4 centimeters. The doctor said I was supposed to do 3 rounds of cytotexh, but the nurse said he wouldn’t want to a third round since it had worked so well on me.

She said we can go ahead and get the epidural started, then we’ll start pitocin, and you’ll have this baby in the morning. Whoa!

Ever since I learned how it happened, one of my very biggest fears in life was giving birth. Once pregnant, my biggest fear was not making it to the hospital (the hospital in Memphis was 30 minutes from our house in Southaven) or having something go wrong with the epidural.

Well sure enough, I tell the nurse something is wet on my shoulder, and it felt like the epidural was wearing off. She said that was basically impossible because all kinds of alarms would alert them if the epidural was disconnected. I basically had to make her look at my shoulder area, and she was shocked to see that the epidural had in fact fallen out.

The epidural person came and reconnected it, but from that moment on, the epidural did not work on my right side. It worked wonderfully on my left side, but the pain on my right side was intense and that is putting it lightly. The epidural person came in 3-4 more times to add more medicine. It wasn’t touching my right side.

My mom had given me a squishy snowman to squeeze during labor, and I was squeezing that thing to death. They started the pitocin around 5 am, and at 8:41 am on December 27, I texted the doctor to let him know I was dilated 10 centimeters. He said I would have that baby in the next 10 minutes or so.

He came in, and I was beyond relieved to see him. Once they told me I was 10 centimeters, I was scared he wouldn’t make it. I definitely did not need to worry about things progressing too quickly at that point though. When the doctor checked me, he confirmed I was dilated 10 centimeters, but he said the baby was still up high, and it would probably be another hour or so before we met him.

Wrong again. This baby was comfortable and not ready to come down. And the epidural was still not working on my right side. I was in all kinds of pain.

However, my water had broken over 24 hours earlier and I was 10 centimeters dilated, so they told me to start pushing. I should have said no thank you, I’ll wait until my epidural is inserted correctly. They strongly encouraged it, and I was so ready to have this baby in my arms at this point, so I went for it. Worst decision I made throughout the whole process.

A lady who is supposed to be very good at coaching women through pushing naturally was the lady who was attempting to coach me through this natural childbirth thing.

I was a teacher for 4 years. Teachers want their students to grasp the concepts they are trying to teach. My body could not grasp the concept this lady was trying to teach. The pain on my right side was so strong that I was making 0 progress.

After what felt like hours and dozens and dozens of pushes, I finally said this is not working. Please fix my epidural.

At this point, there had been a change in epidural people. Thank you Jesus. The lady came in and informed me that because my epidural had already been inserted twice, she was not supposed to do it a third time. And if it did not go in properly, I would have to go without an epidural at all. Serious warning, but I was more than willing to try it because the epidural basically wasn’t working at all anyway.

She told me I would still feel pressure but not pain if she inserted it correctly. This angel of a lady inserted it correctly, and I finally had some relief. After all the pushing I did when the epidural was not working, the baby had moved down, so there was definitely pressure. And still pain. It wasn’t working completely, but the pain was nowhere near as bad as it was before.

When it came time to push again, my body somehow knew exactly what it was supposed to do. I had heard that pushing without an epidural is easier because you can feel what you’re supposed to do. That was not the case for me. The pain was so intense that my body did not know what to do.

Once the epidural was working, I was truly so relieved that my body knew how to push. I never looked at the clock, so I honestly have no clue how many hours it took. But I do know it was a lot.

Anyway, I asked the nurse if the baby was close (multiple times). I was 10 centimeters for what felt like forever. I thought this baby was supposed to make his appearance shortly after that! She went from saying that he was still pretty high to saying that he would come down and then go back up. Absolutely not what I wanted to hear. We thought this baby was never going to come out!! He has been strong willed from the very beginning.

Finally, the doctor came in again to check me. I pushed with him in there, and then I heard the word vacuum. We learned about the vacuum in our class, but I honestly never thought I would have to hear my doctor say that word. However, when he did, I wasn’t concerned at all. I felt relief. It meant the end of labor was near. We were going to get to meet our baby boy very soon!

A few minutes later at 1:14 pm on December 27, Dr. Neblett delivered our 8 lb 10 oz, 20.25 inch long baby boy! After many, many hours of labor, they laid our screaming baby on top of me. He stopped screaming and looked up at me, and our whole worlds changed forever.

Parker and I sat there and stared at our son, Charles Wilson Goodman. So in love with his chubby cheeks, precious lips, tiny hands with fingernails, and every single feature. It was an indescribable joy to meet the little miracle that had been growing in my body for 40 weeks and 2 days. We are beyond honored to get to be parents to the greatest gift God has ever given us, Charlie!

Nursery Reveal

Today’s post is the last blog post I will publish before our baby boy is here (SO soon- his due date is Christmas day). I found it pretty fitting that my last post is his nursery reveal! This room has been a labor of love. Home decor is not always my strong suit, but my mom is great at it, so I have run countless ideas by her over the past few months.

I know what I like, but I don’t always know what will look good together. I knew I wanted white and gray furniture with pops of blues, yellows, and greens thrown in from the artwork and bedding. I think I accomplished just that. This room has become my favorite room in our house! It is such a bright, happy, and cozy space (with blackout curtains, so we can tone down the brightness and hope this baby sleeps well).

I love that Bailey and Rosie have already found their typical spots too. Rosie likes to sit on the righthand corner of the sofa on top of the pillows, and Bailey likes to sit right in the middle of the sofa between the pillows. One of my favorite things is catching Parker walking in there and just looking around. :) And I also love how Rosie sneaks in, takes a bunny off the glider, and brings it to the living room. I should definitely not reinforce this behavior, but it makes me laugh every time.

Also, this southern girl obviously had to have monogrammed items in her baby’s room. So I did remove some blankets and pillows with the baby’s name and monogram on them because we are not sharing his name on the blog/social media until he is here. But this is mostly how it will look!

Before I link everything, let me just say- Baby stuff is expensive, and obviously when you don’t have a baby yet, you have to start from scratch. I tried my best to find deals on just about everything in his room. For example, I waited until Target had a promotion before purchasing the crib, changing table, and glider. And the sofa pillows and lamp came from HomeGoods (so I can’t link them). All of the paintings were given to us as gifts from my mom. I am so thankful for them because I think they are the most beautiful colors and tie the whole room together!

38 Week Bumpdate

Less than 2 weeks to go, and so much has happened this past month! My weekly updates below are LONG. We started weekly doctor’s appointments at 36 weeks, got to spend Thanksgiving with our parents, completely finished the nursery, and did lots more things to prepare for our baby boy!

35 Weeks- 38 Weeks

  • Due Date: December 25, 2018

  • Baby is the size of a: winter melon- 19.6 inches, 6.61 pounds (38 weeks), romaine lettuce (37 weeks), papaya (36 weeks), pineapple (35 weeks)- all of this info came from The Bump app

  • Total weight gain: I have officially stopped looking at the number on the scale when I get weighed. I know that I have gained at least 30 lbs. More on this under the weight gain section in my last bumpdate if you missed it.

  • The bump: It is big and heavy. And the ultrasound tech said the baby is taking up every inch of space in there at my 37 week ultrasound. The doctor has said at my last 2 appointments that the baby is dropping lower and lower each week.

  • Symptoms: Discomfort. Everything started hurting around 36 weeks- moving, walking, changing positions on the sofa, bending over. My back pain causes a serious waddle and very slow pace. Yikes.

  • Food cravings: fruit & all the sweets, especially my mom’s chess squares

  • Food aversions: They are completely gone! Although I haven’t had the desire to eat fish since becoming pregnant.

  • Sleep: It’s been ok. I’m up about every 3ish hours to go to the bathroom. My doctor tried to convince me that this is a really neat thing my body is preparing me to do for when I have to feed the baby every 3ish hours. Not so sure I would describe it as neat.

  • What I miss: Being comfortable. Walking like a regular human. Bending over easily to play with Bailey and Rosie.

  • Movement: Lots of movement is happening! All day every day. I think I read somewhere that you can’t feel the baby as much towards the end because the baby runs out of space. Not the case here. This baby is a wiggle worm.

  • Maternity clothes: these Zella maternity leggings (they’re back in stock!!!) and these maternity jeans. I have had those things for a while now, but I finally purchased maternity/nursing bras and maternity/nursing pjs this month, and I am kicking myself for waiting so long. You can click here t0 check out my very favorite bras (I have black and gray) and I also got this one in nude and this one in gray. But the first one I linked is my favorite. Here are the links to the maternity/nursing pjs I got- top // sleep pants. They are very lightweight and comfortable. Those are the only maternity things I’ve bought so far. I have bought a few new tops and sweaters, but they are all nonmaternity- I’ve just sized up to fit the bump. This sweatshirt is probably my most worn item in my closet.

  • What we are most looking forward to: our baby’s arrival!!!!

  • Apps I've used: Ovia Pregnancy, The Bump, & Babylist

  • Products I've been loving (same things I’ve been using):

*my Snoogle pregnancy pillow (I think this is the number 1 item I suggest for all expecting mamas. I can’t imagine sleeping without it.)

*this cocoa butter lotion for stretch marks (I have never liked lotion, and I’ve only ever worn face moisturizer my whole life. This stuff has no smell and dries quickly. Best lotion ever, even for a non lotion lover.)

a heating pad (for my back)

    *Nexium to prevent nausea

*Books: What to Expect When You're Expecting, The Nanny Connie Way, What to Expect the First Year, Moms on Call, Dr. Spock’s Baby and Child Care

  • Purchases for baby: I have a whole page on my blog under Shop My Favorites called Favorite Baby Items, and that is where I’m sharing the things we have purchased and received so far for our baby!

Weekly Fun

Week 35- My parents and Parker’s parents came up this week for Thanksgiving! I’m so grateful they did! We had the best time- eating, shopping, watching football, and just hanging out! We hung my mom’s paintings up in the nursery, and I feel like they make it the happiest space! I could not love them more. The nursery is almost complete! In other news, the aches and pains hit this week (of course while our parents were in town, ugh). I honestly feel like I had been having a pretty easy pregnancy (minus the nausea that occurred at night between weeks 8 and 20), but now my entire body basically hurts. I feel like there is a foot between my ribs, and I broke my toe when I got off the sofa to put the rolls in the oven. I kicked the sofa leg. Ouch. And I caught a cold. Ok, that’s enough of the negativity, but in case it appears that my pregnancy is a walk in the park, I’m here to tell you that things started getting real uncomfortable this week. In more exciting news, I took advantage of lots of amazing sales and ordered some things I cannot wait to have! I ordered my diaper bag, a bassinet, some bottles, some clothes from Mud Pie, some clothes from Charming Mary, bedding from Pottery Barn Kids, a bed skirt & some Wubbanubs from Target, some nursing bras from Kindred Bravely, and some nursing pajamas. Whoa, that sounds like a lot when I type it all out, but they were basically all necessary items on major sale. :)

IMG_6619.JPG

Week 36- Weekly doctor’s appointments started this week. Before our doctor’s appointment, we went and got our car seat checked at the hospital. They will make sure it is installed correctly before you bring the baby home. Parker gets an A+ because he installed that thing correctly with 0 help from me. Then, we went to our appointment. Our doctor has stressed so many times that the most important thing that can be happening right now is that our baby is moving. No worries in that department. I read or heard somewhere that it’s harder to feel babies move as they get bigger because they’re running out of space in there. Not the case for this baby. He is moving more than ever! I had been feeling some serious rib pain, and the doctor did his first exam and said that the baby’s head is down, so his feet are most likely in my ribs. We will know for sure next week at our ultrasound! Something else strange that has been happening is that my hands are numb when I wake up. I brought this up to my doctor, and he immediately said carpal tunnel. He said this is common with pregnancy, and it should go away shortly after the baby is here. I’m getting progressively more uncomfortable, and my face is beyond swollen. In other news, my cyber week purchases have been coming in this week, and it feels like Christmas! I washed the baby’s bedding and put it in his crib, and some adorable clothes came in! So did my diaper bag, Medela breast pump, and our stroller from my parents! I also spent hours googling how to clean certain brands of pacifiers and bottles, and then I got those all cleaned and found a place for them. Oh my goodness, things are feeling real!

WWeek 37- We got to have our 37 week ultrasound the day that I hit 37 weeks. I had to look back at my bumpdate posts to remember that our last one was at 28 weeks. It felt like it had been forever since we got to see our baby! The ultrasound tech told us that his measurements are showing that he weighs 7 pounds, and he is taking up every inch of space in there. She also told  us he has chubby cheeks and pointed out the little hair on his head too! She said he was doing some practice breathing. I had to ask if that was a good thing. She said yes! And she confirmed that the baby’s head is down, his bottom is up, and his legs and feet are on both sides of my ribs. So that explains the rib pain. After we finished our ultrasound, we were told our doctor had to go deliver a baby, so then we had to wait quite a while to see him. Thinking that that could be our baby he’s delivering soon was surreal! Once we finally got to see him, he said the ultrasound showed that he’s a healthy baby! Yay! I got my second exam and my TDAP shot. I also asked my doctor if he had any idea of when he thought the baby might be here. He said not really, but if he had to guess, he would say that the baby will make it to his due date. We shall see! Parker and I both packed our bags, and we finished up all of the last minute things we had left to do in the nursery!

Week 38- We had our doctor’s appointment yesterday, and the doctor basically said I could go into labor anytime this week or next week, so make sure all my stuff is ready to go. He said they would call me sometime soon to schedule an induction for after Christmas just in case the baby does not come by his due date. My favorite part about the appointments has to be when the doctor asks me if things are happening without me having to say a word about them. He said this baby has dropped very low, is your back killing you? Does it hurt to walk? Are you having to go to the bathroom just about every time you stand up? Yes, yes, and yes. I guess those things are common at this point, but I loved that he was the one to mention those things that Parker had heard me complaining about for the past couple of weeks. The discomfort/back pain/waddle is still going strong, but most things on our to do list are complete, so I feel like I’m almost to the point of being able to relax before this baby boy comes!

34 Week Bumpdate

We are officially less than 6 weeks away from our due date, and it is surreal that we will actually have a baby boy joining our family that soon. This month, we had a baby shower, made lots of progress in the nursery, attended expectant parent classes, and did lots more things that I will be sharing below!

31 Weeks- 34 Weeks

  • Due Date: December 25, 2018

  • Baby is the size of a: butternut squash- 17.7 inches, 4.63 pounds (34 weeks), celery (33 weeks), squash (32 weeks), asparagus (31 weeks)- all of this info came from The Bump app

  • Total weight gain: I have officially stopped looking at the number on the scale when I get weighed. I know that I have gained at least 30 lbs. I also know that I’m growing a little human in me, and it’s normal to gain a lot of weight. But whoa- seeing that number on the scale is shocking. I would try to not eat or drink a lot before my appointments because that number was freaking me out, and that was not good because it would make my blood pressure low. So I am just doing my best to stay healthy and hydrated, and I can worry about my weight later on. The doctor told me yesterday everything looks great and to keep doing what I’m doing, so I’m going to keep doing what I can to be healthy. And also keep not looking at the number on the scale. :)

  • The bump: I feel like it is growing by the second. I was asked for the first time ever by a stranger about being pregnant- the sweet cashier at Trader Joe’s asked me how many months I had left.

  • Symptoms: My feet hurt for days after I wore block heels to a wedding. I will not be wearing heels from here on out! My back hurts from time to time, but a heating pad helps so much with that. I also feel like I pulled my right leg out of socket, but my doctor said I did not- that’s just my body preparing for having a baby. Sleeping is hit or miss. Wanting to organize/prepare like crazy for baby. Walking like a slow poke. Nothing too crazy overall. I am just so grateful for this gift of pregnancy!

  • Food cravings: all the sweets & fruit

  • Food aversions: They are completely gone!

  • Sleep: I either sleep like a rock, or I’m wide awake and cannot go back to sleep for hours and hours. Once I wake up, my mind has 4 million thoughts going on, and I can’t go back to sleep.

  • What I miss: getting up off the sofa or bed without a groan; wearing my wedding ring; comfortably bending over to paint my toenails, putting my shoes and socks on, and shaving my legs. I have listed these last things in 2 previous bumpdates, but they are on a whole new level now. I despise pedicures, and I had to go to a nail salon to get my toes done because it is not possible to paint them myself anymore.

  • Movement: Lots of movement is happening! Parker finally felt it at 33 weeks! Although he didn’t believe it was the baby and said it was just me moving my stomach. Fortunately, it happened a second time and he felt it again, right after the first time, so I think he may actually believe it was the baby.

  • Maternity clothes: these Zella maternity leggings (they’re finally back in stock!!!), these maternity jeans, and these maternity jeans. I also ordered this maternity/nursing bra and this one too. Those are the only maternity things I’ve bought so far. I have bought a few new dresses, tops, and sweaters, but they are all nonmaternity- I’ve just sized up to fit the bump. I did buy a couple new things this month that have been really helpful though, like these Spanx knockoffs for under $10 (I sized up to an XL because I’m not trying to suffocate my stomach). I also bought these pajama pants (for under $8!) in a size large because who wants tight pjs? Not me.

  • What we are most looking forward to: our parents coming up to visit for Thanksgiving!!! and our last expectant parents class this Saturday because we are ready to get to sleep in on Saturdays again before this baby gets here! :) and last but certainly not least- our next ultrasound at 37 weeks!

*this cocoa butter lotion for stretch marks (I have never liked lotion, and I’ve only ever worn face moisturizer my whole life. This stuff has no smell and dries quickly. Best lotion ever, even for a non lotion lover.)

*my Snoogle pregnancy pillow (helps so much with my back when I’m trying to sleep)

a heating pad (also for my back)

    *Nexium to prevent nausea

*Books: What to Expect When You're Expecting, The Nanny Connie Way, What to Expect the First Year, Moms on Call, Dr. Spock’s Baby and Child Care

  • Purchases for baby: I have a page on my blog under Shop My Favorites called Favorite Baby Items, and that is where I’m sharing the things we have purchased and received so far for our baby! We are now buying last minute things to finish up the nursery and get ready for our baby boy’s arrival!

Weekly Fun

Week 31- Parker put together our crib, so we officially have one piece of baby furniture assembled! Our glider came in too, but our shower is this weekend, so Parker will have to put together the glider and changing table the following weekend (he says those are weekend jobs). My sister and 4 best friends (one not pictured) threw me the most perfect baby shower! You can click here to read all about it if you haven’t already.

Week 32- This was a busy week- Bailey’s birthday, my mom’s birthday, Parker’s birthday, a doctor’s appointment, my first class at the hospital, and a friend’s wedding. It was a very fast doctor’s appointment. My doctor said they’re supposed to be at this point- they’re really just monitoring growth and movement. Baby’s growing and moving, so it was a successful appointment! My class was a breastfeeding class, and I learned a lot. I feel like there are so many basics I’m still learning, like a baby is supposed to eat 8-12 times a day… whoa! This was also a big week because we finally got a lot done in the baby’s room. Parker put together the changing table, and I washed alllllll of the clothes, swaddles, towels, blankets, and baby things. So I was finally able to get a lot of organizing done!

Dress details- I actually got my dress several years ago. It was a $297 Trina Turk dress on sale for $63. It was a couple sizes too big, but I decided to snag it anyway for that price and get it altered. Well, I fortunately never got it altered, and…

Dress details- I actually got my dress several years ago. It was a $297 Trina Turk dress on sale for $63. It was a couple sizes too big, but I decided to snag it anyway for that price and get it altered. Well, I fortunately never got it altered, and it ended up fitting perfectly at 32 weeks pregnant!

Week 33- After the craziness of last week, I tried to take it easier this week. I didn’t have a doctor’s appointment, so I was able to get lots of blog-related things done, catch up on thank you notes, and continue organizing the baby’s room. I’m finally starting to feel like it’s getting there! We also went to an Expecting Parents class over the weekend. Parker was not thrilled about going because it took place on gameday from 9-12 in Memphis, but he did say that he learned new things. And we won a pack of diapers because Parker was the biggest baby in the room. They also told us that the dad’s size is a good indicator of what the baby’s size will be, so there’s that. And then we ate lunch at PF Changs after the class, so that was fun.

Week 34- I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday. It was another fast one. Got to hear the baby’s heartbeat and chat with our doctor who we love so much. He said everything looks perfect! He also gave us the name of a pediatrician who he went to school with and highly recommends. The best part- the pediatrician works in Southaven, so that will be much more convenient than having to make the 30+ minute drive to Memphis. He also wrote me a prescription for a Willow wearable breast pump, so I will work on ordering that today. Not many other things to report just yet because I’m only 34 weeks and 2 days, but we will be attending another expecting parents class this Saturday from 9-5. It’s our last one, and someone from the class last week mentioned that it is the most graphic. Yikes.

Baby Shower Fun

My sister and best friends threw a baby shower for me last weekend, and it was such a sweet and special party! When my sister called to brainstorm ideas for the shower, the words I kept using to describe how I wanted it to be were fun and laid back. And that’s exactly how it was!

Facetune_29-10-2018-16-08-17.jpg
Facetune_28-10-2018-17-34-59.JPG

I honestly cannot remember the last time I went to a baby shower. Only a handful of my friends have babies, and I haven’t been able to make it to any of their showers. So I’m not sure where my visual of a very formal tea party with finger foods and high heels came from, but that is the type of baby shower that I did not want. Some people love this idea, and if this is you- you go girl! I knew I wanted a less formal type setting. I wanted the focus to be on having fun quality time with my very favorite people who I get to see so rarely. And that is exactly what happened!

D45D6229-3A18-4A35-A23C-902BFF11F487.jpg

The shower was at my parents’ house and included my family and closest friends. We had Foosackly’s for dinner, which is one of my favorites! If you’re not from Mobile, you may not have heard of it. It is our local chicken finger place that is superb! So we had chicken fingers, salad, french fries, and toast from Foosackly’s for dinner. Plus Ebie brought a few dips that were delicious!

Oh, and the cutest part of the food area- the desserts! Pollman’s made the most perfect baby boy cookies and petit fours that everyone loved. Especially me- sweets have been my biggest craving lately! There was also a drink station with adult beverages for everyone who wanted to partake in the fun, as well as water and tea with Foosackly’s ice AKA the very best crunchy ice!

One of my best friends brought the most beautiful flowers. She had asked me what the theme of our nursery was recently, and I told her we didn’t really have one. I said we’re sticking with white and gray furniture with pale blues, greens, and yellows in the art and decor. She then used that info and brought flowers that were the prettiest blues, greens, and yellows! My mom’s sweet friend Kim also brought over some gorgeous arrangements! Beyond thoughtful of both of them!

There were also adorable decorations that I will share photos of next. My mom hung some silver pieces that we received when we were babies on the chandeliers with blue ribbon. I thought that was the cutest idea! Wait, although I did love that idea, there’s actually one decoration I loved even more. My mom painted individual canvases with the letters of our baby’s name and displayed them on her bookshelf (no picture of that because I’m not sharing the baby’s name on the blog until after he’s born). She helped so much with this shower too. Every detail was so thoughtful, and it made me extra thankful for my family and friends!

I’m so disappointed I forgot to take a picture of the beautifully wrapped gifts that everyone brought over or sent, as well as the 2 paintings my mom painted for our nursery. Baby stuff is just simply the cutest! Parker and I are so appreciative for all the things- the functional gifts that we (as first time parents) really needed, along with the precious clothes that I cannot wait to dress our baby boy in! I’ll share a photo of some of the precious baby clothes we were given since I didn’t get any photos of the cute wrapped gifts.

Facetune_29-10-2018-16-08-52.JPG

The thing that usually comes easiest to me was actually the most difficult- picking out a dress for myself! :) I typically have no problem with this, but have you tried looking for a baby blue outfit in the fall? I don’t think I had because after days of searching online I learned just how difficult it actually is. However, I ended up finding this dress that I adore! I actually have 2 others identical to it. It is nonmaternity, and the other 2 that I have are size medium. I just sized up to a large for pregnancy. It is selling out, so here are a few more options with more sizes in stock- graphite, ice blue, and snakeskin.

And my earrings were so fun too! Caitlin from Caitlin Elizabeth Collection sent them to me, specifically for my baby shower! So sweet! The white flowers are 100% handcrafted silk and the gold bars are 18 karat gold. You can click here to check them out. Or click here to check out all of the other options on her website. There are so many other gorgeous styles and colors.

The best part- she is giving my followers 15% off everything on her website with code ART15, so definitely take advantage of that if you are in the market for gorgeous earrings. They would make fabulous Christmas gifts for loved ones too! The discount code is good through Saturday, and they are already reasonably priced for the amazing quality.

I had the very best time getting to celebrate our baby boy with the sweetest friends and family. I am 32 weeks today! We are getting so close to meeting our baby, and we are much more prepared after this baby shower! Thanks so much to our friends and family for being so precious! And thanks to you for reading this long-winded post! :) Have a great day!

30 Week Bumpdate

There used to be times when people would (so kindly) say oh, I can’t even tell you’re pregnant! That is most definitely nowhere close to the case anymore. I hit 30 weeks on Tuesday, and I cannot believe that we now have less than 10 weeks to go! We are so grateful for this little baby and cannot wait to meet him in a couple of months!

26 Weeks- 30 Weeks

  • Due Date: December 25, 2018

  • Baby is the size of a: zucchini- 15.7 inches, 2.89 pounds (30 weeks), pineapple (29 weeks), eggplant (28 weeks), lettuce (27 weeks), kale (26 weeks)- all of this info came from The Bump app

  • Total weight gain: 26 lbs since before baby. WHOA. Can I blame that on the fact that I can no longer wear lightweight Lilly dresses to appointments when I get weighed? The extra clothing I have on has to contribute to some of that weight, right? My doctor told me yesterday that the baby and I are both right on track. I’ll stick with that positive commentary instead of sharing my actual thoughts on this matter.

  • The bump: It is without a doubt there now and shows even when I am wearing my loose fitting sweatshirts and t-shirts.

  • Symptoms: No more nausea since week 20! My back has hurt badly, but a heating pad has definitely helped with that. Super vivid dreams. Wanting to organize/prepare like crazy for baby. Not being able to walk as quickly as I used to. Splotchiness on my face. Nothing too crazy overall. I am just so grateful for this gift of pregnancy!

  • Food cravings: all the sweets & Taziki’s

  • Food aversions: Most aversions are completely gone! The thought of eating grilled fish still grosses me out, but I had a couple bites of Parker’s seafood gumbo at Jason’s Deli, so I’m excited to be able to eat some seafood now!

  • Sleep: Great until I wake up. Once I wake up, my mind has 4 million thoughts going on, and I can’t go back to sleep.

  • What I miss: comfortably bending over to paint my toenails, putting my shoes on, and shaving my legs. These were the things I listed last month, and these are still the same things that I miss. I despise pedicures, but painting my toenails has become next to impossible, so I think I’m going to have to go to a nail salon soon.

  • Movement: Lots of movement is happening! Until I tell Parker to look, and then the baby immediately stops any movement every. single. time.

  • Maternity clothes: these Zella maternity leggings, these maternity jeans, and these maternity jeans. Those are the only maternity things I’ve bought so far. I have bought a few new dresses, tops, and sweaters, but they are all nonmaternity- I’ve just sized up to fit the bump.

  • What we are most looking forward to: our baby shower and seeing my family and friends for the first time in forever!!!!!

  • Apps I've used: Ovia Pregnancy & The Bump

  • Products I've been loving: I just bought this cocoa butter lotion for stretch marks, and I LOVE it (I have never liked lotion, and I’ve only ever worn face moisturizer my whole life. This stuff has no smell and dries quickly. Best lotion ever, even for a non lotion lover.), my Snoogle pregnancy pillow (helps so much with my back when I’m trying to sleep), a heating pad (also for my back), comfy clothes, Nexium to prevent nausea, What to Expect When You're Expecting

  • Purchases for baby: I have a page on my blog under Shop My Favorites called Favorite Baby Items, and that is where I’m sharing the things we have purchased and received so far for our baby! We purchased this Rock and Play, this Mamaroo swing, and this Pack and Play when they were on sale last month. I also got some baby hangers and picked up a little hooded towel at Home Goods! I got these bins for our 8 cube storage organizer that is in the baby’s closet. We also purchased the baby’s crib, changing table, glider, and mattress during this Target baby deal that is still going on! We’re finally starting to knock some things off the list!

Weekly Fun

Week 26- All parts of my back started killing me this week. I’m typically fine when I’m up and moving around, but when I sit down for more than a few minutes or get in bed to go to sleep- ouch! I’ve been praising my Snoogle pregnancy pillow since the second I got it, but it wasn’t enough to fix this problem. Tylenol and an extra pillow under my back helped thankfully! We also received the sweetest gift- one of my friends sent a monogrammed blanket and Angel Dear bunny lovey with our baby’s name on it. It was the first time I had ever seen his actual name on anything, and it made me tear up. SO precious!

Week 27- My back is feeling better, and my food aversions have finally gone away this week! I cooked chicken at home for the first time since being pregnant, and I had a couple bites of Parker’s spicy seafood gumbo at Jason’s Deli! My bites included shrimp- woohooo! Seafood has always been my fav. I did not enjoy being repulsed by it. Nesting has become a serious thing. I worked so hard and finally finished completely cleaning all of my stuff out of my office turned baby’s room! The closet in that room used to be my dress and bag closet. There are officially no more dresses or bags. And the precious baby clothes have been hung! And we started putting together some baby items!

Week 28- We had our 3D/4D ultrasound this week! It was so neat to see a live view of our baby boy! The most amazing thing to me was being able to feel him move and see him move on the screen at the same time! The ultrasound tech kept trying to get him to move because his hands were in his face 90% of the time. Out of the 8 pictures we were given, his hands were covering his face in 6 of them. It was still such a neat experience to get to see his features more clearly than we ever had! My doctor suggested a heating pad for my back, and that has been life changing. We will now start going to the doctor every 2 weeks, so that made things seem pretty real.

I also had a scare at a blogger event I went to in Memphis. It’s a long story, and I shared all of the details in this blog post if you missed it. To sum things up- I hadn’t eaten enough, it was in the 90s, and I was on my feet for too long while carrying a baby around and almost fainted. But I made my way to the ground before actually fainting and was completely fine after about 10 minutes of being taken care of by some precious people! My doctor said it was most likely because of a dip in blood pressure, and my blood pressure is completely fine now!

Week 29- I finally bought some little bins to put the baby’s things in this week, and his closet looks so much more organized! I LOVE having designated places for all of his things. I know they will all be changed around as we get furniture for his room, but the organization process has brought me so much joy! I also did some less than fun tasks, like call the insurance company to see what types of breast pumps are covered, schedule our baby classes, and register at the hospital where our baby will be born. Parker and I also put together a couple more baby items, and I have thoroughly enjoyed doing this together. Some of the directions come with pictures only and no words. Parker’s college degree is in Building Science, but putting together baby items can actually be quite the challenge. And makes me laugh so hard. Rosie’s fear of these baby items is quite entertaining as well. I’m glad we already have them, so she can start getting used to the sounds and movements of some of these baby things!

My storage organizer is actually from Ikea, but this one from Walmart is exactly the same! And I got these storage bins to put in it!

Week 30- Considering week 30 started Tuesday, I don’t have much to report. We got our crib and changing table, and I cannot wait much longer for the weekend to get here so “we” can put them together! I somehow did not think about bedding… if anybody has any bedding suggestions, please let me know! We went to the doctor yesterday, and we both adore our doctor. There’s not much to report from the visit, and I think that is good news. We did get to listen to the baby’s heartbeat, and that is always such a neat experience. I also got my flu shot while we were there. We’ll go back again for our next appointment in 2 weeks and take our baby classes at the hospital in November!

We're Having a Baby BOY!

Baby Goodman Coming Christmas 2018!

Thanks so much for reading!! Have a wonderful day!

SHOP THE POST:

25 Week Bumpdate

I am officially 25 weeks, and pregnancy is definitely feeling real! The bump is here, I’m feeling our baby move, and we are just over 3 months away from meeting this little baby boy! This is a long post today because I tried to update this weekly, so I would remember everything that happened from each week. Here we go!

21 Weeks- 25 Weeks

  • Due Date: December 25, 2018

  • Baby is the size of a: cauliflower (25 weeks), cantaloupe (24 weeks), grapefruit (23 weeks), coconut (22 weeks), endive (21 weeks)- all of this info came from The Bump app

  • Total weight gain: 18 lbs since before baby (What to Expect When You're Expecting suggests gaining 2-4 lbs in the first trimester and 1-1.5 pounds per week in the second trimester.) I'm still on track, but that sounds like a lot! And my doctor said that this month the baby and I will start growing a lot more. The baby is gaining about 6 ounces a week now, which is a huge jump from what it was before.

  • The bump: It is without a doubt there now. Around week 23, Parker made a comment that he could actually tell I had a bump for the first time.

  • Symptoms: No more nausea since week 20, except when I had to drink my glucose drink (more on that below in week 24). Insomnia once I got off my nausea meds. My hips and back started aching. Super vivid dreams. Frequent hunger. Having to go to the bathroom 4 million times during the middle of the night. TMI? Sorry! Wanting to organize/prepare like crazy for baby- my mom told me I was nesting. :)

  • Food cravings: fruit, Gatorade Zero, everything from Chickfila, a slice of cake (thanks commercials- Parker bought me cupcakes and that did the trick)

  • Food aversions: still going strong with the same aversions I’ve had basically the whole time- grilled seafood, grilled chicken, vegetables with a slimy texture (like zucchini), but I’ve also added hot dogs to the list

  • Sleep: Great until I went off my nausea meds. I think my body got dependent on them, so when I stopped taking them, it took about a week to start being able to sleep through the night. There were nights when I would be up from 2-5 AM. NOT fun.

  • What I miss: comfortably bending over to put my shoes on and shave my legs.

  • Movement: I finally started feeling movement consistently around 22 weeks! I felt random little flutters from time to time before that, but I wasn’t positive of what exactly it was until around 22 weeks. Then it started happening every time I got in bed to go to sleep and whenever I sat down on the sofa to watch tv.

  • Maternity clothes: these Zella maternity leggings and OMG I just got these maternity jeans and these maternity jeans in the mail Tuesday, and they are life changing! Quite a few of my regular clothes do not fit anymore, so I’m excited about pulling out my oversized sweaters and tops to wear with my maternity leggings and jeans once we get some cooler weather.

  • What we are most looking forward to: our 3D/4D ultrasound happening at 28 weeks! The doctor said the point of it is to get really cute baby pictures! He said to bring a CD-R if we want to save all of them, so obviously Parker and I went and bought a 10 pack immediately!

  • Apps I've used: Ovia Pregnancy, The Bump, and Glow Nurture. I also used Sprout until 23 weeks when it stopped allowing me to use the free version.

  • Products I've been loving: my Snoogle pregnancy pillow (helps SO much with the achy back and hips when I’m trying to sleep), leggings and sweatshirts (specifically this one), these super comfy slippers that I just got in the mail (if in between sizes, size up), pills for nausea until 24 weeks when I switched to pills for reflux, What to Expect When You're Expecting, I have purchased this cream to prevent stretch marks, but I haven’t used it yet

  • Purchases for baby: I now have a page on my blog under Shop My Favorites called Favorite Baby Items, and that is where I’m sharing the things we have purchased and received so far for our baby! We have received some super sweet gifts, like onesies, swaddles, bubbles, socks, hats, blankets, burp cloths, etc!

Weekly Fun

Week 21- I definitely started showing more in my clothes this week! And my hips started hurting so badly, especially while in bed going to sleep and while in the car on road trips. I had no clue this was a thing. However, What to Expect When You’re Expecting saved the day again. It informed me that it’s technically called round ligament pain, and most expectant moms experience it. I bought this Snoogle pregnancy pillow, and it has been life changing! It allows me to sleep with no pain! And it helps me stay on my sides instead of my back, which I learned you are not supposed to do during pregnancy.

Week 22- I am finally for sure feeling movement! I think I have felt a few little kicks before this week, but I wasn’t sure what they were. Now, every time I get in bed at night, I feel all kinds of moving going on in there! This also happens throughout the day when I sit down for a few minutes. I came home to Mobile this week for an annual dermatologist appointment (everything was good!) and some fam time! Loved meeting Ebie’s puppy Sophie! I’m definitely hoping Bailey and Rosie do better with a baby than they did with a puppy though... My mom stocked us up on some adorable baby things, Ebie gave us a couple thoughtful gifts she got from the N Sale, and Gr’Ann made our baby boy a blanket- she crocheted the edges. So special!

Outfit Details: Dress | Crossbody Bag

Week 23- This was the first time Parker said he could actually tell I was showing. The bump is definitely here now. Further proof- We went to our friends’ couples shower over the weekend and I tried on somewhere around 5-7 dresses before I found one that fit. Fortunately, I was able to take advantage of some Labor Day sales and stock up on a few items that actually fit! One con- I have to go to the bathroom all day every day and all night every night. Annoying.

7F422C05-36B8-42B4-9D92-D0EF6A00D236.JPG

Week 24- Had to take my glucose test. I had heard about how awful the drink tastes, but I hadn’t heard about how it makes you feel. The taste certainly wasn’t good, but it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. I had fruit punch, and it was sort of like a sweeter gatorade with a cough syrupy consistency. The worst part was that about 10 minutes after taking it, I got really jittery, lightheaded, and nauseous. I am beyond thankful that Parker was driving me to my doctor’s appointment because it took all I had to concentrate on not getting sick on the way over there. Once we got there, the bad feeling had mostly subsided. I asked my doctor if it was normal to feel that way, and he said yes- your body isn’t used to chugging that much sugar in such a short period of time. So I’m glad to know that was normal, but it still was definitely not a good feeling. They took my vitals, got my bloodwork, and then we got to talk to the doctor (the best part, we LOVE him!). We were able to hear the baby’s heartbeat with a doppler, and it was in the 130s. That is always so surreal and exciting! He also told me I did not need to take the nausea meds I was taking anymore because that medicine was more for the first trimester. Nausea in the second trimester is typically caused by reflux, so he switched me to Nexium.

Week 25- Week 24 was such a long update, and I don’t have much for this week so far haha. Week 25 just started on Tuesday, and there's not much to report. Aside from the fact that my maternity jeans came in, and I LOVE them! And after a long week with very little sleep (caused by coming off of the first trimester nausea meds), I am finally sleeping through the night again!

20 Week Bumpdate

I cannot believe that we hit the 20 week milestone yesterday! Time is flying and also somehow ticking by kinda slowly at the same time. We get to go to the doctor today! I've never looked forward to going to the doctor so much! Today is baby boy's anatomy scan, and we cannot wait to see him!

Facetune_07-08-2018-17-56-59.jpg

14 Weeks- 20 Weeks

  • Due Date: December 25, 2018
  • Baby is the size of a: banana (20 weeks), zesty zucchini (19 weeks), sweet potato (18 weeks), pomegranate (17 weeks), avocado (16 weeks), navel orange (15 weeks), peach (14 weeks)- all of this info came from The Bump app
  • Total weight gain:  12 lbs since before baby (What to Expect When You're Expecting suggests gaining 2-4 lbs in the first trimester and 1-1.5 pounds per week in the second trimester.) I'm right on track, but whoa- that number was not pleasant to see on the scale. Guess I need to let that go since it's only going to continue to grow.
  • The bump: I was so excited when Parker's mom and our sister-in-law told me they saw a little bump! They also said that I am carrying low, which is common when expecting a boy. Once they said that to me, I finally actually saw it myself. I got Parker to take a picture in my bathing suit, and there was no more questioning it! Photo below under the 19 weeks section. :) I'm 20 weeks along- I'm ready to be out of the did she just have a big meal or is there a baby in there phase!
  • Symptoms: I got sick for the first time. I know it is more common to get sick during the first trimester, but I never did. The nausea was real, but I never actually got sick until week 14. And one more time at week 16. I get extremely tired at night and start to feel sick if I try to stay up late, so I don't. I go to bed before the exhaustion/sick feeling kicks in. My sense of smell is still really strong, and the smell of seafood in the grocery store still makes me feel nauseous.
  • Food cravings: fruit, Sour Patch Kids, plain Cape Cod chips, chicken salad, chocolate chip cookies, chips and salsa/queso/guac, peanut butter, Gatorade Zero
  • Food aversions: grilled seafood, grilled chicken, vegetables with a slimy texture (like zucchini)
  • Sleep: Great! The Unisom and Vitamin B combo makes me sleep very well.
  • What I miss: beer/ fun drinks on vacay! I haven't ever missed it while at home, but when I was at the beach and the lake, I definitely wanted to crack open a beer or enjoy a bushwhacker like the rest of the fam.
  • Movement: not feeling any yet. I'm hopeful it will happen soon!
  • Maternity clothes: these Zella maternity leggings- they sold out during the Nordstrom sale, but they are back in a few sizes. I love them so much that I gave them 5 stars and wrote my first review on the Nordstrom site. I said- These leggings were my first maternity purchase. I LOVE all Zella leggings, and these did not disappoint! Medium is my usual size, but I didn’t really know what to get for maternity. I ordered medium and large, and I like the fit of the medium WAY better than the large. They both fit pretty similarly in the legs, but the large was way too roomy in the band part at the top. I’m keeping both just in case I need large closer to the end of pregnancy, but I suggest going with your true size. Medium is perfect for me!
  • What we are most looking forward to: the anatomy scan and doctor's appointment today at 2:00!
  • Apps I've used: Ovia Pregnancy, The Bump, and Glow Nurture
  • Products I've been loving: Same answer as the first trimester- leggings (specifically these) and sweatshirts (specifically this one), pills for nausea, What to Expect When You're Expecting, I have heard lots of bloggers say they use oils and things to prevent stretch marks, so I need to look into that
  • Purchases for baby: this fluffy bear jacket is all Parker and I have purchased so far, but my mom has stocked us up on some sale items from the N Sale and some baby boy clothes she has scored on sale! I shared some of them on Insta stories yesterday! Some of her finds include: this little puppy sweatshirt and sweatpants set, this DockATotthis Little Giraffe baby blanketthis Little Giraffe towelthis Mustella newborn arrival gift setthis Halo sleepsack swaddlethis Halo sleepsack wearable blanket!

Weekly Fun

Week 14- We went on vacation for the 4th of July! We went to visit my family in Orange Beach. Our trip included fun at the beach, pool, and lots of amazing restaurants! You can find my Orange Beach Travel Guide here. We also went to Florbama of course. I think it was the first time ever that I ordered a virgin daiquiri, and I'm here to tell you that it was delicious! On our drive back to Southaven, I got sick for the first time. And then Bailey (our dog) did. That ride back was not so fun.

Week 15-Nordstrom started their big anniversary sale for cardholders. I spent a lot less this year than I did last year! I haven't been doing a lot of shopping lately because I honestly don't know what to buy for myself. I have truly been living in leggings and pullovers. I did add to my comfy clothes collection because I know I will be able to continue wearing these things throughout pregnancy.

Week 16- We announced we were having a baby here! I am still so grateful for the outpouring of love we received! We went to the doctor thinking we would find out the gender of our baby, but we did not get to at this appointment. We were able to hear the baby's heartbeat with a doppler though! It said his heart rate was 145 beats per minute! And we got back a lot of blood work. The doctor said all of the tests came back great, and we have a healthy baby! However, I had it in my mind that we would find out our baby's gender, so I was so disappointed when we did not! Our nice doctor scheduled us to come back in exactly one week for the ultrasound lady to give us this info! I spent so much time on Pinterest this week looking at gender prediction charts. About 95% of them showed that we would be having a girl, but I had a gut feeling from the very beginning that we were having a boy!

Week 18- The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale went live to the public, and I did lots of N Sale blogging. Sharing a picture below with my favorite items because they have been restocked (now that the sale is over- insert eye roll emoji). I also craved chocolate chip cookie dough, as well as chips and salsa/guac/queso. I never got that egg-free cookie dough. However, I did get to eat chips and salsa/guac/queso at On the Border with Parker for our weekly lunch date!

Week 19- Parker finished Phase 1 of his job here in Southaven, so he actually had a real week off where he could enjoy a relaxing vacation! We went to his parents' lakehouse at Gap Lake and enjoyed a very relaxing week with his family! This was the first time I realized I actually had a bump! Warning- If bump pictures make you uncomfortable, close your eyes and scroll past the next picture! I didn't think I was going to be one of those girls that put their hands like this, but I learned quickly that when you do not, it is not a flattering look (or at least it wasn't for me anyway).

Week 20- Yesterday was the day we hit 20 weeks, so I don't have much to report. Although we did go to the doctor today for an anatomy scan! The ultrasound was longer than usual because the lady thoroughly checked the baby’s heart, brain, spine, kidneys, arms, legs, facial features, etc. At one point, I said- so is he looking healthy? She said l can’t answer that. Only the doctor can tell you that. I immediately felt terrified. If she knew the baby was looking healthy, she could easily say yes, right?? From that point forward, Parker and I were both worried out of our minds. Although he did not tell me he was until after he got home from work. We were called back to the doctor’s office (ours was out, so we saw a different one), and we had to sit there for 40+ minutes wondering what was going on and dying to ask how our baby was. As soon as the doctor walked in, she said she had looked over all of the results, and everything she saw was good and showed that the baby was healthy. She confirmed that the ultrasound lady is not supposed to tell us how the baby is doing and only doctors can do that (at this office anyway). Immediate relief flooded over us. We asked quite a few questions, and we left feeling immense gratitude and relief that our baby boy is looking healthy. We will go back in 4 weeks, and I will be tested for gestational diabetes then. That’s it for now!

Baby Goodman Coming Christmas 2018!

Thanks so much for reading!! Have a wonderful day!

1st Trimester Bumpdate

I am actually 18 weeks pregnant today, but I want to use my blog to scrapbook this journey, so I am going back to document the first trimester today! I will be back next week with a 19 week bumpdate covering everything from 14 weeks to 19 weeks, and then this type of post will become less frequent! I'm thinking every 4 or 5 weeks. I'm just kind of playing catch up now since we didn't announce we were expecting until 16 weeks!

If you missed my pregnancy announcement blog post, you can click here to check that one out. And click here to check out the post where I shared we're having a baby boy! If you're all caught up on those, let's get started! By the way- this is a long read. Feel free to skim! :) Bumpdates have become my favorite type of blog post to read from other bloggers because I learn so much helpful info, so I got a little excited/wordy with my own!

First Trimester

  • Due date: December 25, 2018
  • Baby is the size of a: sweet pea (6 weeks), blueberry (7 weeks), raspberry (8 weeks), cherry (9 weeks), strawberry (10 weeks), lime (11 weeks), plum (12 weeks), lemon (13 weeks)- all of this info came from The Bump app
  • Total weight gain: 2 lbs (What to Expect When You're Expecting told me 2-5 lbs is the suggested weight gain range for the first trimester. I think my nausea kept this number in the lower end, but I have gained more than that since I am now out of the first trimester and will share that in my next bumpdate!)
  • The bump: towards the end of the first trimester, my stomach looked like I had just eaten a big meal, and my ability to suck in was no longer a possibility
  • Symptoms: no symptoms at all until the end of week 7, then the nausea and exhaustion kicked in. I never had morning sickness or actually got sick, but I had nausea just about every single day starting at week 8 around 4 or 5 pm and lasting until bedtime. My doctor suggested eating something between lunch and dinner because nausea would be inevitable if I didn't always have something in my stomach during the first trimester. Plain Cape Cod potato chips became a real life saver. And I used my free samples of Diclegis until I ran out (that stuff is $$$$$) and switched to a doctor recommended substitute of Vitamin B and Unisom (the one that says Doxylamine Succinate on the front). Also, my sense of smell has become insanely stronger than ever before.
  • Food cravings: FRUIT, Sour Patch Kids, diet lemonade, french fries, sandwiches (no deli meat at home, just sandwiches from restaurants that have been cooked), cereal (Honey Nut Cheerios and Life) for breakfast, TCBY
  • Food aversions: seafood, grilled chicken, vegetables with a slimy texture (like zucchini), eggs, avocado
  • Sleep: Great! The Diclegis or Unisom and Vitamin B combo makes me sleep very well.
  • What I miss: coffee and Advil. I waited way too long to purchase Tylenol for headaches, but it has been greatly appreciated.
  • Movement: not feeling any yet!
  • Maternity clothes: haven't purchased any yet, but my white jeans definitely became uncomfortable towards the end of the first trimester
  • What we are most looking forward to: finding out the gender and sharing our exciting news with everyone!
  • Apps I've used: Ovia Pregnancy, The Bump, and Glow Nurture
  • Products I've been loving: leggings (specifically these) and sweatshirts (specifically this one), pills for nausea, What to Expect When You're Expecting, I have heard lots of bloggers say they use oils and things to prevent stretch marks, so I need to look into that
  • Purchases for baby: nothing yet (surprisingly)! Looking forward to buying things when we find out the gender!

Weekly Fun

Week 5- We found out we're pregnant! I took 2 tests (one that had a plus and minus sign and one that said the actual word Pregnant). More about that here.

Week 6- I went to my doctor in Mobile who confirmed our pregnancy! She talked to me about a few basics, and I got my first ultrasound, which showed baby was doing well and had a very strong heartbeat! And the due date was Christmas day! Then I went to a friend's wedding and had to convince all of my very best friends that I had an "ear infection" and wasn't drinking because I was on antibiotics. Basically every single one of them knew I was lying and asked if I was pregnant. They know me too well.  :)

However, I did learn from this, but what I’m sharing doesn’t apply to your best friends because it’s what best friends are supposed to do. And for the record, I have done the exact same thing to them. What I learned is that there’s really just never a good time to ask someone if they are pregnant. You never know what someone is going through- they could be having a hard time getting pregnant and not want to talk about it, they could be newly pregnant and not ready to share, they could have just had a baby and they're working on losing baby weight, etc. If you're unsure, stay safe and let them bring it up to you! If they are pregnant, it will come out eventually!

Week 7- I went to a blogger event in Memphis that was from 5-8 and started feeling realllllly sick for the first time on the way home. Fortunately, Parker was with me because he convinced me we needed to stop and get some food (not what I was really wanting at the time). We stopped at McDonald's and got some french fries, which actually helped. This was when the nausea every evening thing started.

Week 8- I asked a friend for a doctor recommendation in Memphis because I had only ever been to my same doctor in Mobile my whole life and didn't even know how to begin the search for a new doctor. We went to this new doctor at week 8, day 1 and had the BEST experience. We felt a sense of peace and knew this was the best place for us. They did an ultrasound and Parker got to see our baby for the first time (because he was not with me when I went to my doctor in Mobile)! And we both absolutely loved our doctor!

Week 9- My TCBY cravings started and still haven't totally gone away...

Week 10- Went to another friend's wedding and learned it's much easier to just fake drinking than fake sick. Having Parker there made this much easier too. He ordered club sodas with lime for me all night. I was worried about staying out so late because nighttime is when I typically felt so nauseous, tired, and awful. However, I was completely fine until the very end of the night. All my friends went to a bar after the reception, and I physically could not. Felt major FOMO, but I basically had to get back to the hotel, take my Diclegis, and hit the hay.

Facetune_03-06-2018-12-47-26.jpg

Week 11- We had another doctor's appointment where they did another ultrasound... we told the lady that we were about to tell our families about our baby and she made sure to include some cute words on the sonogram pictures for us to give our parents! Later this week, my family came to Southaven, and we got to tell them we're having a baby! I did the worst job of documenting this because I truly had the best time living in the moment without my phone. But basically as soon as they got in town and brought all of their stuff in, Parker and I handed each of them a beer. We put our wedding huggers around each of their beers, and I tied sonogram pictures around each of their huggers that said Baby Goodman due Christmas Day! We had the best weekend celebrating our exciting news, as well as an early Father's/ Grandfather's Day! :)

Facetune_11-06-2018-15-00-57.JPG

Week 12- Parker and I went to Dothan to tell his family we're having a baby! We went to dinner Friday night after our nephew's baseball game with Parker's parents, brother, sister-in-law, and nephew. We told Parker's dad we wanted to give him his Father's Day gift a couple of days early, and he opened his actual gift, along with a baby onesie that said you're going to be grandparents again! Parker picked it out and purchased it! It was such a fun night with them, and then we got to share the news with Parker's sister, brother-in-law, and 2 nieces at lunch the next day with the whole Goodman fam! Parker's dad actually did it for us by pulling out his father's day gift AKA the onesie to show them! Our niece Anna Clay had already made the prediction we were coming in town to tell them we were having a baby... she was right!

We're Having a Baby BOY!!!

Parker and I found out yesterday that we are pregnant with a baby BOY! We are overjoyed and SO excited to finally know this precious info! We are 17 weeks pregnant, and baby boy Goodman is due Christmas day! The 150 day countdown is on (so thankful for the invention of apps that tell us fun info like that)!

IMG_9027 2.jpg

We looked at various old wives' tales and about 90% of our answers told us we were having a girl. However, I have had a feeling since the very beginning that it was a boy. At our first doctor's appointment, my doctor looked at me and said what are you having? I said is this a trick question? Do you already know what we're having? He said no, but you do. A mother's intuition is the most reliable gender predictor. All of those old wives' tales are bologna. He was 100% correct in our case.

Like I mentioned in my pregnancy announcement blog post, we thought we were going to find out the gender at our doctor's appointment last week. However, that didn't happen, so our doctor scheduled us to come back for an ultrasound yesterday.

As soon as we walked in, I asked the ultrasound lady if she could write down the gender and put it in an envelope, so that we could find out via cupcake filling a little later. She said of course and as soon as she found the baby, she said he was face down with his legs crossed. That made it difficult to find out the gender, so she let us just watch him for a few minutes.

She referred to the baby as she or her, before and after she found out the gender. Parker didn't notice, but of course I was thinking did she slip up? Is it a girl? Or is she tricking us, and is it a boy? She kept it consistent though, and said she or her the whole time! We got to see all 5 fingers on one hand, his face, his spine, and he gave us a thumbs up at one point (pictured below)! I couldn't believe how much bigger he looked than the last ultrasound when we went in at 11 weeks. He's taking up lots of space in there! He is currently the size of a pomegranate according to 2 of my apps- The Bump and Ovia Pregnancy (this is the first time they have both said the same thing).

IMG_0758.jpg

After a few minutes, she turned the monitor off, so that we couldn't see anymore and determined whether it was a boy or girl. She put the pictures in an envelope and included "it's a boy" on a couple of them! It was pretty hard to not bust into that envelope early because it was just held together with one piece of tape.

IMG_0719.JPG

I had called a few bakeries on the way to our appointment. I didn't realize how hard it was to order cupcakes filled with icing. One place said they would need 5 days, and another place said they didn't offer cupcake filling. However, I ended up finding the most precious bakery called Old Towne Bakery in Olive Branch, which is basically right next door to Southaven.

The man I talked to on the phone was SO friendly. He told me the lady who fills the cupcakes was there in the morning, so I needed to let them know what to fill the cupcakes with... obviously I did not know what to fill them with, so I ordered 2 vanilla cupcakes filled with pink icing and 2 vanilla cupcakes filled with blue icing- best idea on my part because they are SO good!

Before we went to the cupcake place, we went and enjoyed lunch at our favorite restaurant- Tazikis. It's in Memphis, so we don't get there as often as we would like. Thanks to Ebie and Patrick for my birthday gift card- lunch was on them! Then, we drove to Old Towne Bakery. We walked inside, and it was the cutest place and the owner was SO nice! We gave him the envelope, and he brought us the cupcakes. He told us the cupcakes in the container with the sticker were the ones that were filled with the color of our baby's gender. The other container didn't have a sticker.

I got him to take our picture, and he told us that we better get out of there before he spilled the beans and ruined the surprise for us. We walked right outside, and there was a precious little table and chairs set. Olive Branch is very small, and we were in the downtown area that is adorable! We sat right down, and I of course had to snap a photo of the unopened cupcakes.

IMG_0725.jpg

Then we opened the box, and Parker said he was full from lunch and didn't want one. So I pulled one out, and the white icing on top sort of slipped in my hand... and I was able to see the tiniest bit of blue poking through. Parker could immediately tell from my face that I saw it. I've never been one who could hide facial expressions, so I took a big bite in an effort to get far enough in there to show him the BLUE icing! Such an exciting and special moment!

I shared this exciting news with our family and a few close friends yesterday. Some people asked me if I was excited... I have always been a girly girl and only grew up with a sister, so I think some people might have assumed I wanted a girl. However, I could not possibly be more excited! I have honestly never prayed for a boy or girl specifically. I have only ever prayed for a healthy baby, and we are beyond thankful and excited that God blessed us with this baby boy! His plan is perfect and has been far better than we ever could have imagined!

I am also beyond thankful for your love and kind words! When I shared about our pregnancy last week, I was overwhelmed in the best way! Y'all made it the most fun day, and I cannot thank you enough! The timing of the big Nordstrom Sale couldn't have been better either because this baby boy has already been gifted this DockATot, this Little Giraffe baby blanket, this Little Giraffe towel, this Mustella newborn arrival gift set, this Halo sleepsack swaddle, this Halo sleepsack wearable blanket, as well as some precious baby boy clothing (that was just ordered yesterday)!

You can click here if you missed the blog post where I shared our pregnancy announcement. As always, thank you so much for reading! And I hope you have a great day!

Last thing- because all I want to look at now is precious teensy tinsy baby things, I'm linking some of the most adorable baby things included in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!
